The original word(s) translated to English...by (wo)men who again are not perfect... If only there was an easy answer.

Re: http://philanderica.tumblr.com/post/11114298923

Oh, I would so be in trouble! In these areas, when Christians forget to treat others as they would like to be treated and other Christians stand by, the inactivity is negatively influencing culture.

On the other side of this coin, I see a lot of silence when it comes to the treatment of the "others" in our own country-- topics no one wants to talk about. Race relations, poverty, abuse (including spiritual abuse!), the treatment of children as inferior, sex, the beauty of the human body in all forms-- these are all areas where many Christians are influencing culture negatively by their silence.

Admittedly, it is changing in some areas, but I also see theological differences driving a wedge within our community that limits our ability to influence culture too. Calvinists, Arminians, Catholics...Each of these divides separates us from influencing culture in a holistic meaningful way, especially when the intolerance of one group for another results in judging the other as non-Christian.

I have gotten way off topic...sorry about that.

Re: Question of the Week: Is Culture Better or Worse Because of Christians?

I think this is a challenging question. I believe some Christians do change culture in a positive way, but the loudest (or rather most noticeable) are those changing it negatively through action or inaction. I think we need to look no further than how many Christians have responded to the polarizing topics of our day to see Christians "behaving badly" (so to speak) and influencing culture towards hatred and violence instead of truth and love. Additionally, the fear of anything that is seen as non-pious is limiting art-- in all forms-- IMO.

Even as I write this response, I think we see a culture of Christianity that you described earlier-- one that is "safe" and prefers safety to being out in the world influencing culture-- being in this world.

Re: Badger SPF 30+ Sunscreen, Unscented || Skin Deep Cosmetics Database | Environmental Working Group

We have been using this sunscreen for two years now, and I love it. I am very pale and burn very easily, yet with this sunscreen I managed a week in Florida without burning. I think this is an area where a lot of people do not think about the impact of terminology, but it is important and frames the way we see children. I didn't even realize that TB's need level was higher than some children until my friends started having kids. I suppose it was an advantage of going first? :)

Re: 40 Before 40

I knew you'd like that one.
