They have almonds or pecans. The carts that sell them are not easy to find, and the glazing machine only makes around 8 servings at a time, so sometimes you have to wait, but oh, they are good - warm and fresh out of the "oven". Especially in December at night watching The Osbourne Lights on DHS's Streets of America with a hot cider! (I've gotten the glazed nuts also at Epcot and AK, just never have seen them in MK.) And while it's not really the best choice "financially", I love being able to get a cold, crisp pickle ;) on a hot day. It's a refreshing change-off from a Mickey Bar (not that I don't love those, every so often). And don't forget the frosted rice-krispie treats, those are my daughter's favorite :). But my husband, he <3's a bag of trail mix!

Re: Aly Raisman: Olympic Hero, Jewish Daughter

"This video contains content from International Olympic Committee, who has blocked it on copyright grounds." I almost always have assistance to the gate, which takes the form of a wheelchair, even though I don't normally need a wheelchair. I can stand and walk unaided, just not as far as the gates are, with a heavy carry-on. I very much do not like when TSA makes me sit in the wheelchair as they attempt to undress me and unpack my laptop, and then *help* me redress and repack ... all the while the things on the belt behind mine are pushing my stuff to the end and I am sidling along to stay with it to pack faster ... it's pretty crazy! Then they'll think they're helping by moving it to a side table and by the time I've caught up with that I have no idea where they put my stuff tsk. Last time, DH and I thought it would be easier if we packed both our laptops in one bag ... it was not TSK. And this was in Tampa! Yup, that is what they need, bigger *dressing* areas. I cannot imagine what it must be like when you're traveling with young children, trying to make sure they don't wander off while attending to your family's belongings on the belt! Thank you Disney for trying to make it better! Wish we could see pics of this amazing concept!

Re: New Disney Vera Bradley Pattern to be Released at the Perfect Petals Brunch

The newest pattern's not for everyone. I read it in the hard-copy newspaper, and came here to provide my one negative reply. In the hard-copy, the word "cowriters" is split due to its placement at the end of a line. Unfortunately, it's split improperly, as "cow-righters!" That can't be correct. I've heard of "cow tipping" but never cow-righting! Such a shame to see a simple concept misused.

Re: Money Is Tricky Topic on Graduation Dinner Invitation

Wow, so much negativity! I can understand why so many think it's crass and a gift-grab. That said, here's my 2 cents.

I'd NEVER hosted anything that implied guests will be paying for themselves … until two years ago. Here's how it happened.

My father was going to be 99yo in the fall. It was around June when my husband suggested we have a family get-together for him in his honor, because who knew if he'd live to be 100. Counting my immediate family, my sister's (my only sibling), and all Dad's nieces and nephews and their families was more than our home could accommodate. Also, our bathroom being on the 2nd floor with a full flight of stairs precluded Mom's attending at our home. We weren't in a position to pay for this many people, having our own two eldest daughter's weddings in the preceding 3 years.

I proceeded to hand-write invitations specifying that this was a Dutch-treat event, and specified that gifts were not necessary, and that Dad would much prefer having the whole family together having fun, than getting stuff he probably didn't need. We chose an accessible restaurant midway between the people who lived the furthest away, with an extensive and varied menu, both in food selections and price points. We did bring our own decorations, and a playlist of music from the 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s. We invited our social media circles to send Dad a bday card, hoping to get 99 or 100 cards. (We ended up with about 130!)

Only two people declined. People who had a bigger budget could order what they wanted. People who wanted alcohol could have what they wanted. Dad (and Mom, too, for that matter) had a real blast! He LOVED seeing where all the cards were from (the furthest was from Croatia!). I gave out his favorite candy bar as token party favors.

Afterwards, the same relatives who helped us set up the decorations stayed to help take them down. And later on, my daughters and I all took turns writing thank-yous to everyone who came.

Dad passed away less than 3 months later. We are SO glad we did this.

There are civil and polite ways to do it. True etiquette means considering the other person's perspective and making sure they are comfortable in our presence.

Re: The Truth About Greek Yogurt

I love Siggi's, but it's been difficult finding a low-sugar type. Almost everything I want to jot down goes onto my smartphone. But now I’m facing a task and I’m looking for a specific kind of notebook.

When I was in college, some other students used a notebook where the left margin was about a third of the way toward the center of each page. In other words, there was a vertical line down the page dividing it into 2 columns. But it wasn’t centered; the columns weren’t even. Instead, the left column was narrower than the right column; the dividing line was to the left of the center.

This allowed (allows?) for note-taking where the topic would be written in the narrower left column, and the details in the right column.

Can you help me?

Re: Bride To Be Plans Walk Down The Aisle After Dad's Death | uexpress

Lol

Re: Mom Works to Shield Kids From Her Mentally Ill Sister

I have several relatives with mental illnesses. While I didn’t seek out their company as I was raising my kids, I didn’t feel the need to shield my kids, either.

This mom needs to teach her kids about mental illness. Suppose one of her immediate family contracts one? Will she shield her kids from one of their parents or siblings? While it certainly complicates life, it’s also a fact of life; it’s not something to shield our kids from.

Education and compassion are what is required. If she doesn’t know how by now (assuming she’s grown up with said sister), there are mental illness advocacy groups online as well as in many communities “in real life”.
