Are there any distinctions made now about other rankings of social media types, below the pay grade of 'expert'? If not, I would love to see 'social media 1st Lieutenant', 'social media captain', 'social media first mate', even 'SM sous chef' or 'deputy SM rear admiral'. Perhaps we could then give something for all the rest of us to aspire to! :-)&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;But seriously, not everyone wants nor needs to aspire to being an 'expert' in this arena. If you agree, where do you see social media's role 5 years from now? Will SM jobs exist then that haven't been created yet today? I am a Boulder native who can't afford to live there anymore, hence the short trip up to Longmont.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Someone posted a while back (was it you?) about a company you could send a greeting card to after they chose to follow you in Twitter. I like the idea, but then again if it is automated, it will be no more than just an expensive autofollow responder, lacking any personal touch or interest in that other person. But wanted to expand on your comment about neophobes doing well in conservative religions and political movements, law enforcement, military and government bureaucracies. I understand the stereotype here but have connected with many folks on Twitter and other SocMedia sites who are right on the cutting edge of tech but also embrace conservative religion (i.e. biblical Christianity).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Also, I agree with Brett Greene's blog on the value of purging (&lt;a href="http://bit.ly/Z9VeL)" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" title="http://bit.ly/Z9VeL)"&gt;http://bit.ly/Z9VeL)&lt;/a&gt; in a recent post--being a lover of the new is not a sure path to happiness and can bring about the reverse effect.
