It's inevitable that the knitting gets mentioned at work, particularly if you have yarn trailing from your backpack, as I often do. I'm bound and determined to put the old gray-haired grandma myth to bed. I AM an old grandma, with white hair that gets blonde every 4 weeks or so.

I have never much worried about my boss knowing about the knitting. In fact, people are usually rather interested. At the new job, I was knitting at my desk one lunch hour and the woman two cubes down from me walked over and lo! She's a knitter too. So ya never know. Knitting is so much a part of you that you should be proud of it. Being an expert knitter means that you have a functioning brain, one of value to the corporate suits. Btw, are you now finished in DE? And is that an ID lanyard around your neck? God, the two of us need to get the f out of the corporate world. Soon.

Re:

Good lord, it's been a long time since I've commented. What's with this new system? Rather a PITA. Sweater looks fabulous, btw! And I wish I could get BBC America but our lousy cable company doesn't have it, nor does Jerry's, which is Comcast. I would love to watch it.

As far as reviews are concerned, as a manager, I was fortunate enough not to have any people reporting to me. That said, if my previous company had had employee reviews, I shudder to think what I would have said. Since my manager was and is a close friend, she knew exactly what I thought about the company. However, it was a rare occurrence to be told that I had done a good job by anyone there. I knew I had but self-confidence sometimes isn't enough. Employees need to hear that they are valued, if they are. And to hear how they can improve their performance, too. I've always given 150% to my work, sometimes to my personal detriment. Now that I am working as a consultant, things have changed radically. The second day on the job, my boss told me he was sure we would make a great team. That's what I needed to hear.
