I dunno, I would use "clean" over "plain, personally. I still just can't choke down that "black speech bubble to type into which blocks all of the chat behind it" nonsense. It looks awful to me. Anyone that has this application know if you can turn that off and have a NORMAL text input?

People complain about apps on the App Store costing 99 cents, what makes you think they won't feel outraged at paying $16 for something they can obtain for free on a PC?
We can say "different market environments" up and down, to most end users it doesn't matter. They'll expect it to be free. Look at the downright outrage people have spouted here about wanting a refund of $3, the amount of money you would pay for a 2-liter bottle of soda.
Now multiply that outrage over 5 times.
Apple turned off reviews from non-buyers just in the nick of time for BeeJive not to end up being rated even lower than MobileChat based on price alone.

Maybe you're right. Even still, why not just use the text entry field that is present in every other iPhone app? This looks ugly and a case of someone trying to fix what isn't broken. If you want to read a part of the chat this obscures, you're a little S.O.L.
So I stand by my claim of it being ugly and unintuitive.

The vertical lines and the colors used for the text bubbles are too dark, making it harder to read, the speech bubbles look awkward and mis-shapen.

Each buddy in the buddy list occupies WAY too much space, people with longer buddy lists will be scrolling into infinity and beyond.

Stuff popping up in front of what I might be trying to read? Cluttered, annoying, unintuitive, I hope you can disable it.

Unless they dramatically improved the app, MobileChat is still much more visually appealing to me, and there's also some usability issues highlighted by these pics that make me think "this looks like a jailbreak app, not something I'm spending $16 on."

I saw the screenshots of the beta. Ugly as sin and cluttered to boot. If 3.1 stabilizes MobileChat, they can start adding features found in BeeJive and undercut their only real competition. $16 is pretty steep for IM for some people if it's free on their computer.
It's going to get pretty interesting around here.

MSN seems to be working OK, aside from contact list refreshing problems.
As much as I hate to say it, I'm kinda wishing the Adium team were willing to step in and provide a solution for iPhone. But they're not, have said that they have no immediate intention to do so, and so you're stuck with this app, the official AIM app that doesn't support MSN and Palringo, an application that misrepresents itself and requires you to relinquish your privacy and security. Soon after I signed up with them, I started getting spam on my MSN account. That's too close of a coincidence for me to think it's anything else. But at least I know how they can go about offering the app for free.
The rest that are currently on the App Store aren't that much more appealing, either visually or in terms of reliability.
Since my primary IM client is MSN, and we all know Microsoft has no bloody intention of supporting iPhone any more than it's already been made to... not too many options left for some of us. At this point, we can only hope that our $3 is being put to good use, and while progress is coming VERY slowly, it is still coming, which you wouldn't know judging by recent comments. And it always seems like the same people over and over, like we didn't hear their opinions on the subject in every other blog post. You've thrown in your 2 cents so many times that you have already spent a figurative $3 on top of the literal $3 for the app. What I mean to say is that, at this point, it's a horrendous waste of time saying something here. I'm starting to see you guys in the same light as the weirdos who comment negatively on every minutia of Britney Spears' trainwreck existence: reveling too much in schadenfreude and becoming equally as tragic as the subject of your ire-based enjoyment.
But whatever, I'm such a ghost.

They clearly state that they completely understand that there is a lot of upset people, they're just suggesting that it's going too far. And can you blame them for thinking that? I've seen more orderly conduct at a KKK convention.

Maybe you should take it up with Apple? I mean, if you want to know the validity of the statement, maybe go to the horse's mouth, or a reliable 3rd-party informant (i.e. another developer) to find out how much validity there is. It's fine to call something into question, but if you're honestly curious and not just trying to stir something up, perhaps actually looking into it would be a good idea.

I'd think the 2-star rating the app has is all the warning an intelligent person should need. If you don't read reviews, it's your own fault at this point if you buy it in the state it's in now.
And you paid for a product that you probably bitched and moaned about since day one, so whether or not it's been a month should probably hold no relevance to your point.
There's "making noise", and then there's being a whiner and a tool. You submitted your ticket for a refund, you're going to get it... why are you still here? Warning people about the product here, in the sea of other whiners, is the epitome of preaching to the choir, wouldn't you say? So, what exactly is keeping you here if you've already submitted your ticket for a refund and will get it fulfilled when they finish processing everything else that came before yours?

This is something I'd really like to hear, just to giggle at the silly justifications you might apply to the situation.

Well, Awayze, I'm sure you could get good money selling your iPhone. If you hate it ever so, I would suggest going that route and replacing it with something you want. But somehow I doubt you're going to do that.
And I'm sure we'd hear a TON more bile spewed from AIM users if they hadn't corrected that first. This is a case where twenty08 is damned if they do no matter which protocol they showed priority, but the situation they have placed themselves in required them to take priority over some users.
As for the app lockout, I could only assume that when I saw apps that were only available in Mandarin and other assorted non-Canadian languages on the Canadian App Store that there wasn't a lockout. My bad.

Considering most people requesting them via proper channels are actually getting them, you must be under the assumption that complaining to the developers in this forum instead of formally submitting a ticket for a refund and then contacting Apple for one is beneath you.
And it's funny that people are filing a class-action against a company selling a $3 application that has caused them no bodily harm when refunds are being offered to those who seek them via proper channels. That'll get thrown out SO fast as a nuisance suit. The fact that someone is paying hundreds of dollars for a LAWYER to get back 3 BLOODY DOLLARS just goes to show what's wrong with modern society. It's $3 mobile IM client, folks, it's not a business-critical piece of software, it didn't reach through the screen of the phone and assault you.
Once again... $3 is worth spending hundreds in legal fees? Yeesh, what a joke.

It's more likely that it's been submitted and approved for release by Apple and EA, being a game company that likes to work on specific timelines, asked to release the version submitted on a specific day instead of ASAP. Game companies delay release of finished products all the time, as they like to stagger releases so they don't choke sales of their products.

khyros, Awayze: Unfortunately, from the looks of the things already submitted to the App Store, there's no way for developers to specify release in only certain regions, so you can't really hang the blame on them for that.

Just for Awayze: Calling someone an Apple fanboy while owning an iPhone and whining about an app for said Apple device is like calling someone an idiot after losing in the first round at a spelling bee. I hope you see the huge irony in your post. Maybe you should have bought a Windows Mobile phone instead?

hayn: Though they are giving MSN less priority in terms of timing for implementation, I am sure that it will receive an equal level of support to other protocols once it is implemented.

Nutchos: I think I Am Rich still holds the title of "worst paid app", even if Apple pulled it.

And to all of you, MSN support is actually coming, and it is certainly encouraging that it won't trail behind YIM, either, but the question now is WHEN. I would rather they implemented the protocols one at a time and make sure they're stable than try to implement them all at the same time and have them ALL work like crap... but all that said, I want MSN pretty bad, too, and any sort of explanation as to a timeline for when we can expect it is appreciated. I don't expect it to be too long, once you've got your server setup stabilized, but knowledge is power.

Yes, not to get this too far off-track, cuz new servers are great, but I want to see what statistics you guys are using to determine that Yahoo has more users that bought MobileChat than MSN. Yahoo and AIM are barely even used outside of the US, Canada included (we're sadly MSN people here). Considering how many people have been railing on you for MSN not working in your blog so far, it might be time to re-evaluate IM protocol priority.

I agree, I hope you guys are giving Apple a bit of grief about the release difference. The only justification I can see for it is MobileChat required more re-coding than Palringo did, so Apple has more information and data to review, but that's a pretty big stretch, as far as I'm concerned. Do they continue the review process on weekends? I hope so.

Wow, I've never seen so many people upset about $3 before. I pay that much for a 2-liter of Coke at the 7-11. At this point, I think it's just whining for the sake of whining. If you want a refund, contact them through the proper channels and they will assist you with getting a refund from Apple, if $3 is that genuinely precious to you.

How... constructive of you. You could always use one of the alternatives. Oh, wait, those have almost as many problems as MobileChat does. At least with this program, I know my money is going towards fixing its problems. The only one that doesn't have that many problems is Palringo, but I found their sign-up process to be excruciatingly intrusive, if not an outright invasion of my privacy.
So really... if you're that upset, being a whiner gets you nowhere, just take a refund and go already, this place is for those who wish to stay informed about how things are getting better.
Sorry if I sound mean, but really, HONESTLY, what is the point of voicing your dissatisfaction here?

MSN keeps getting stuck on "sending account details", happens on Wi-Fi or EDGE.

Considering the amount of tickets they are probably getting, you need a system that can support a large volume. Setting up some rinky-dink submit form on your personal blog for an unadvertised freeware program might not have been a big deal, but this is prime-time, dude. Think about how many people have likely bought this app, then pass judgment on their implementation.
