However, Jonny, you could pressure your state representatives to reinstate the Maine retirement Cola structure that was in existence before LePage. LePage changed it in 2011 saying that the state couldn't afford it yet he gave a huge tax cut within the very same 2011 legislation that mainly benefitted the wealthy. And took money away from the pension colas. I know teachers who are retired and living in very Dire Straits because of that.

I am entirely in agreement with you. But, to the best of my knowledge, this change has to be made at the federal level. There have been bills at the federal level but they have gone nowhere. If we can get the Senate to change to blue, perhaps this could be fixed.

Very good idea. But that has to be passed at the federal level at this point. I am sure the Maine legislature and Governor being behind it would be a huge help.

The state of Maine pensioners did take a hit. You're right. That was during the 2011 legislation. The same legislation that gave the tax cut which benefited primarily the wealthy.

I agree with Michael Brennan. Teacher Retirement should be handled at the State level. LePage's changes to Teacher Retirement should all be put back in place as originally agreed to with teachers when they were encouraged by Reagan to select the State Pension system instead of Social Security for their retirement back in the Reagan years.
