In the Safari browser, go to Preferences, then Notifications, and then find 'The Next Web' in the site listing and click on the radio button to "deny." That should stop notifications. At least that is how you do it in the latest Mac OS with Safari, not sure about other platforms/browsers.

Exactly! It was all about being bold. When the 6th Doctor entered a room, he was the beacon that demanded attention. It was a reflection of the times, the mid-1980s. It was designed against what came before it (the 5th Doctor's costume) as was the practice at that time with each new Doctor. It was loud, and the 6th Doctor was loud. Over time it may had changed (there were already minor changes throughout Colin's abbreviated time as the Doctor). I don't believe it would had gone monotone as some have imagined though.

I agree with it all except for #5. A sure way I will not retweet something is to ask for someone to ask for it. If the tweet and/or subject is compelling enough or interesting enough, I will retweet it. One doesn't need to ask for it.

I had been using Foursquare for years and didn't even realize they were missing from Swarm until I read this article. I obviously didn't pay attention to the whole point structure of the app or really cared that much how I stacked up against friends in the leadership board. I'm not putting it down. Gamification can be fun, but it just wasn't what draw me to use the service.

It's science fiction. If the first movie was very successful, they would find a way to do a sequel which would include sand worms and perhaps continue Frank Herbert's vision. They killed off (spoiler alert) Spock in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. How could they do another Trek sequel without Spock? Like Dune without the sand worms, it would be a barren wasteland of a movie. So they brought back Spock (and also made him the director). George Lucas decided to conclude the Star Wars Skywalker story arc with episode 6, Return of the Jedi instead of doing 9 (or at one point 12) movies to do it. So it was all wrapped up in episode 6 with nothing more to tell. Fast forward to today. Now that Disney has bought it, they want some return on that huge investment and wham-o, now there is going to be an episode 7 for better or worse. When it comes to sequels, money talks and B.S. walks (i.e. the story/script).

There was the attraction in the Las Vegas Hilton for many years before it closed down in 2008. It's the closest thing we had to Star Trek theme park. It was pretty amazing.

"Data carrier"? In the 1980s we simply used analog telephone land lines to exchange data (via a modem). If a form asked me for my "data carrier" 30 years ago, I wouldn't know what it would had been talking about.

If it is 100% free, that's cool, but what is the monetization model? Will ads be coming? Or will it be marketed to be sold to a Google or Facebook or alike? In-app purchases? Will there be a way to save our content that we post (words and images) to the site back down to our computers?

I thought I was the only crazy person that went through all this trouble to create labels for my audio cassettes. I did the same thing for my VHS library as well. Hand drawn and colored.

I fear that JJ Abrams will do with Star Wars what was done with Star Trek. That and this shouldn't be "Episode 7"... just make it a new storyline. Lucas wrapped up his original outline elements for episodes 6-9 in all in episode 6. The Skywalker story concluded itself. There's no where to go with it now.

Interesting. I could had used this after Superstorm Sandy when I was without power for two weeks. Even though I enjoy biking, this project seems a bit complicated even for a geek like myself. I did invest in a solar panel and charger since the storm so I'll have power for my gear in case something like this happens again. It won't run my refrigerator, but will keep my iPhone going which may be even more important in emergency situations.

Apple didn't say they needed to copy or keep up with other companies. You are reacting to speculations offered by reporters and pundits on rumors. They have no inside track on Apple. They are only speculating on why Apple are doing things that we don't even know they are actually going to do. It's speculation on top of speculation.

I remember seeing it in two different theaters on opening day 30 years ago. The first theater I was first in line as a friend and I got to the theater early that morning and waited for the first show. We may had even been first at the second theater later that day, if not, we were near first.

I wanted to share more from this day, three decades ago, but that stuff is now all in storage while I continue to recover from Stupidstorm Sandy. Ahh… the "gifts" from that hurricane continue on.

Being included in the Twitter (or other service) stream for the hashtag subject is just one use. Since I have many people following me for different types of content I may post about, a hashtag is useful for those to discern the relationship or topic of the content or link I am sharing. It also helps to categorize my posts on sites that aggregates them such as RebelMouse or Twylah.
