The judge said; "I can see no good reason except punitive to set sentencing outside the standard range." It is a clear indication this country is going down the toilet when a judge does not believe in administering punishment. Shame on (pseudo judge) Meyer and shame on this community and America for letting this happen!

Re: Outburst was designed to take attention away from desire to give Americans proper health care - Journal of the San Juans

Mike,
The reason Rep Wilson called Pres Obama a liar was because he was LYING! No one can force a child to learn. Thanks for taking the time to post. Yes, I sincerely agree we are ignorant adults and do not understand the youth on the island. Please, please take some more time to help us to help the youth. What SPECIFIC things need to be changed? WHY do the kids get in a rut? What exactly is wrong with the school system and police? This island is full of people who want to help and have the resources to do so. If you had $10,000,000 what would you do to help?

Re: Reaves: 'Even if you sentence me to 99 years, I can't bring my brother back' - Journal of the San Juans

So I made the mistake of browsing through some of the local kids MySpace pages.... what a depressing tour of misplaced priorities. We live on an island surrounded by natural beauty with a million things to do and all our youth can think about is getting drunk, using drugs, casual sex, and aspiring to bling-bling, guns, and gansta wanna-be's. It is so sad that there is no vision of success based on eduction, career, and wholesome family life. Kids, there is a beautiful world out there. Turn off the dead end path and go look for it!

Re: Reaves pleads guilty to manslaughter, sentencing Feb. 13 - Journal of the San Juans

Hey DORRIS1,
Maybe if you had spent a little less time drinking and doing drugs and a little more time getting educated you would have learned that YELLING does not enhance your argument. Open a dictionary and learn the difference between "know" and "no", passive vs possessive tense, and accidental vs intentional. Exactly what facts are we missing? The brothers brought their gangsta-rap clothing and attitude with them to the island, they were drunk and fighting over a barely teenage girl to abuse, he had time to get the gun and load it, and shot his brother in the chest (not the leg or other "warning shot"). Seems to me the only missing information is the sordid details of drug dealing/abuse and misplaced priorities (cars, baggy pants, gang life, etc). Please, what "facts" are we missing?

Re: Reaves pleads guilty to manslaughter, sentencing Feb. 13 - Journal of the San Juans

Jawaad Reaves statement as reported online; "On Septemeber 28, 2008 in San Juan County, WA I engaged in reckless conduct. As a result my brother Jermaine Reaves died". Hopefully everyone recognizes the passive tense here, "my brother...died" as opposed to "I killed my brother". Like all true criminals he does not accept responsibility for his actions!

Re: Reaves pleads guilty to manslaughter, sentencing Feb. 13 - Journal of the San Juans

This island needs to ask itself some serious questions! How old was the underage girl the brothers were fighting to abuse? What else were they fighting about- drugs, alcohol? What is the murder rate among blacks on the island? What is the rate of fatal DUI among illegal aliens on the island? How many familiar faces are on meth? Why does the "community" pour affection on a murderer? Why does our local government spend all its time encouraging illegal immigration, generating hatred for the president, and trying to tax rainfall so they can spend millions replacing a functional dump?
