My friends that live and commute on Mercer Island are adamant that light rail NOT go over I-90. Why? Because the proposed route/plan would take away lanes. Moreover, they don't want to deal with a light rail line barging through their neighborhood. Call it a case of "not in my backyard," but light rail (according to those who live near it), is noisy, and intrusive. So there had better be some more analysis of whether "the people" really want light rail on I-90, or if that's just the politicians want to cram down on us.

John, thank you for sharing your first-hand knowledge with Ms. Hutchison. It is exactly this type of genuine background that my spouse and I have been trying to find in order to make an informed decision. We know Susan, because we watched her on KIRO for many years. We even ran into her when she was out campaigning at a parade this summer. We'll be making up our mind this week, and re-reading your editorial here before casting our ballots. The other guy, Dow, sure is a Mr. Meany-Pants! We can't stand that type of negative campaigning -- and certainly didn't appreciate what we perceived as sneering at his opponent!

Steve, how about telling us readers more about this issue of Constantine being against the flood district before he was for it? Is it true he was engaged in some kind of political horse-trading scheme?

I don't live in the flood plain, but my office is situated smack dab in it. If I'm to make an informed decision in this race, I need to know whether Constantine has stood with us from the get-go, or whether he did in fact (as a friend tells me), threaten to jeopardize public safety by saying he was "fully ready" to vote against the flood district if he didn't get votes for a FERRY district?!

Dow is sure one mean little man. Snarls and staring down his nose at Ms. Hutchison. I trust her more than him. We'll be making up our minds this week who to vote for. But right now, we're leaning towards Hutchison as someone we can trust to champion South Sound issues.

Dr. Grossnickle already has two votes from this household! And he'll have plenty more from parents looking to improve their kids' education. Nothing moves unless it's pushed, and Dr. Grossnickle understands that! We can't move forward by standing still. Dr. Grossnickle will be our agent of change.

If you vote for the incumbent, you're essentially voting for more of the same. You're voting for abject failure to ask tough question. Your voting to leave expectations low for our kids and our community.

Vote for change, vote for Dr. Jim Grossnickle!

John, I couldn't agree with you more. As someone who has lived in Renton long enough to know the issues, and the people working for change, versus those trying to preserve the status quo, I know Dr. Grossnickle belongs to the former camp. He's smart, young, and dedicated. But most of all, he has the QUALIFICATIONS to bring about real change in our schools.

By comparison, the incumbent he is challenging only has a high school diploma. While her community involvement is admirable, to be frank, she's in over her head. Let's put in some real leaders from the education community. Let's turn things around!

Taking over for Marcy Maxwell? More like hand-picked to continue her disastrous reign over the board. It's time for fresh, new, experienced leadership in the RSD. We won't get that from Pam. Let's clean house, and install some fresh blood into the system. It's getting a little stuffy around here with the same old folks, doing the same old things.

Pam hasn't given us any reason to vote for her. What are her qualifications? How are we supposed to trust that she'll be fully invested in this position, when her kids are grown and on their way to college?

Renton needs to take a serious look at who it's promoting for these kinds of positions. Voters are tired of go along get along politicians. I only have to take one look at Pam's endorsement list to know she's the consummate insider.

Well guess what? We want change! Our household will be voting for the other guy, who just happens to have a PhD, and you know, work in academia. It'll be a refreshing change to have someone on the school board who knows what the heck they are talking about for once.

It's time for the school board to quit being a rubber stamp for the administration. There are some tough decisions coming up. Will board members take some leadership and be the watchdogs we've elected them to be? Or are they content to stay asleep on the job?

Jim, we appreciate the expertise you will bring to this board. It's badly needed. Nobody wants to say it, but our schools are failing our kids when it comes to math & science. Your opponent has little in the way of formal education, so it's a lopsided, and easy choice. You'll have 2 votes from our household, and hopefully many more from all our friends and relatives we've talked to about your campaign!

It's great to talk about "making state," a good goal to be sure. But to get there, our student athletes are going to need support from outside the school yard gates, or in this case, the school pool. Let's do what we can to support our kids, with a strong showing at their events!

I agree with Ben, it's great to have someone with your qualifications step up to the plate, and offer to serve. I don't know much about "Plasma Physics," but I know our kids need to improve on math & science. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how we can make our schools top-notch in that regard, Jim!

Sally is such an inspiration to young women in our schools. She's a classic example of what a good education, and hard work can accomplish. Of course, not every student will be a top achiever, but we MUST, and we will provide them all with the opportunity to be successful. If that means more voc-tech programs, we should get after it. If that means more sports programs for our student athletes, let's get it done. And if that means supporting young talented and musically-inclined kids, then let's make it happen. We can't let the status quo continue to fail our kids. Jim's right, we need change, and with his background in academics, this Renton resident thinks he's the one to help bring it.
