Both my boys were delivered by midwives in a hospital. I felt like I got the best of both worlds--the attention of a midwife in a hospital setting. I'm not sure what it's like in other states, but in VA and NJ (and in Canada where I'm from) many midwives deliver in hospitals.

I feel the EXACT same way. My son makes the county schools cut off date by 2 weeks, and I had this argument with his preschool teacher last year. She wanted him to repeat the 3 year old program, because she was concerned about whether he'd be ready for kindergarten.

Fast forward a year, and my son is more than ready for kindergarten. He can read, write, draw...he's just not as big as the kids who are a year older than him. Grr. This boils my blood, can you tell? :)

You have given me hope. My son has been peeing in the potty since September (again, pre-school requirement), and poops at home in a pull-up. We've bribed, we've threatened, and sometime before this new baby is born in the fall, I'm going to have to go all out and just take the pull-ups away, because I will not change two sets of diapers. (And he'll be four. Maybe I should tell him he can't turn four until he poops in the potty. Hmm...)

My almost-three-year-old does the same thing. When I told him he was not big enough to drink my Starbucks, he stood up on his tip-toes, puffed out his chest, and asked if he was big enough yet. :)

I remember the morning I left for Kenya how the nerves overtook me, so I will be praying for a calm spirit for you. Are you having a layover in London? You may find the London-Nairobi flight less crowded--I think I was able to sleep pretty much that whole leg of the journey.

I will definitely be praying. Having been to a Maasai village in Kenya before, I can tell you it will be an experience like no other. The Kenyan people, especially the children, have such a place in my heart. (Can I be a teensy bit jealous? Is that ok? I'll still be praying!) :)

Now, I will admit I fell victim to this trend. When I was in college. (Because you can get away with these things in college...not to mention the scrubs I also wore...as a music major.)

But now that I'm pretending to be a grown up, I make sure I'm wearing pants. I may have to check out those yoga pants...they'll make me feel young again!

For family this year, I'm using scrapblog.com to make a calendar using photos of my son. I used the site last year to make scrapbooks for everyone, and they were a big hit!
