We sent cards last year for the first time and didn't ever receive a response that they had been received and were appreciated. I'll call and speak in person to the closest family members and that will be it.

Being born in the early 1950's having children was the expected path to take. Even as a young girl I knew that children weren't for me. I had the support of both of my parents when asked if they expected grandchildren. There are so many unwanted or abused children out there today, if only potential parents would think seriously on how hard and expensive it is to raise a child.

I have a housecleaner (found on a recommendation from a friend) who comes in twice a month to do the heavy cleaning (kitchen, bathrooms, vacuuming). Both my husband and I agreed to an outside cleaner when we realized that we were both spending at least one day per weekend cleaning and not taking the time to recharge from our hectic work lives. We still change the beds and do laundry but have also outsourced the fall garden cleanup.

Neither of our families has little children or children under that age of 18 for that matter. We each go our own ways over the holidays and cherish the other times of the year that events are celebrated. This year we're going out of town over the weekend, just the two of us.
