I've ordered from them several times. It's a tasty whole grain, and I also have used cooked sorghum in making tempeh. Nature Nate's black sorghum is also sold at many stores across the US — there's a list of dealers on the website.

Re: The Self-Domesticated Ape

I think one can see the same sort of bootstrapping in the development of language. Communicating via language offers significant survival benefits — specificity of warnings, ability to communicate things learned ("bad plant!") and plans ("you go there, I stay here, then we attack"), supporting socialization, increasing the store of group knowledge. Those who had difficulty in learning and using language were, I imagine, disadvantaged in getting resources and finding mates. So natural selection would favor improved language ability. I expect the development of written language pushed forward other innate abilities.

Re: Friday Favorites: Is Sorghum a Healthy Grain?

I order my black sorghum from Nature Nate's. The vendor is Nature Nate's in Washington state. The site includes a list of dealers who carry the products, but I live in Canada and wanted to order directly. Shipping costs were high, but the vendor agreed to refund some of the shipping costs. Current price of black sorghum is US$4/pound, and they also sell popped sorghum.

Re: BASIC BROL (BARLEY, RYE, OATS, AND LENTILS)

This looks so good. And I have seen little or no defense of Elmendorf's actions, only attacks on me (such as on my mysterious motivations — which I don't see as all that mysterious, as I've explained).

Re: Harvard Misinformation Expert Joan Donovan Forced to Leave by Kennedy School Dean, Sources Say

Thank you for a reasonable response, and also for being polite, something lacking in much of the discussion. I don't have a dog in this fight, but Donovan's background and prior work seems appropriate and we know from prior experience that Elmendorf is quick to fire (or put the kibosh on an invitation). The possibility of his acting in haste in another case seem not totally unlikely. That's all. I am surprised by the talk of hidden agendas and secret motivations. I am not so much adamant on the point I've made as not having been offered any evidence but merely personal insults, which are irrelevant to the case at hand.

Re: Harvard Misinformation Expert Joan Donovan Forced to Leave by Kennedy School Dean, Sources Say

You, on the other hand, are consistent. :)

Re: Harvard Misinformation Expert Joan Donovan Forced to Leave by Kennedy School Dean, Sources Say

Wow. I wish you could avoid inflammatory language, but perhaps that is as much as you have in the way of argument.

Re: Harvard Misinformation Expert Joan Donovan Forced to Leave by Kennedy School Dean, Sources Say

When I wrote "based on the information available," I was referring to the information in the article, particularly the information about Donovan's work and career. The author of the article is Miless Herszenhorn, and I think that the career information is publicly available. Since you don't name the "someone" with an undisclosed agenda, I can't comment on that, but since the agenda is undisclosed, its nature, like the "someone," is also unknown — potentially "nasty," as you say, but also potentially benign. I have to say that you yourself seem to have an agenda which, though not explicitly disclosed, is obvious: to impugn the integrity of the report without offering anything factual. On the whole, I trust this report more than I trust your comments about it.

Re: Harvard Misinformation Expert Joan Donovan Forced to Leave by Kennedy School Dean, Sources Say

oBased on the information available, Elmendorf is starting to create a pattern of injudicious terminations. Once (Roth) might be a mistake (though an unforced error), but a second unjustified termination is moving toward a pattern. A third will clench it. I wonder how untenured Kennedy School faculty view Elmendorf.

Re: I Was Wrong About Mastodon

Very interesting essay. I also relatively new to Mastodon (a month in), and like you I find it enjoyable and worthwhile, with a very positive vibe noticeably absent from Twitter.

I also was interested in how your reasoned (and reasonable) conclusions about Mastodon were belied by your actual experience when you used it. That pattern — arriving at a logical conclusion through abstract reasoning, only to find through experience that the conclusion was wrong — is so common that the Thomas Huxley quotation, "“the great tragedy of Science —the slaying of a beautiful hypothesis by an ugly fact,” comes constantly into play. In the specific field of law, the same thought was expressed by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr: "The life of the law has not been logic; it has been experience." And yet Libertarians seem not to have learned how one must test against the reality of experience those conclusions reached through logic alone — nor how often those conclusions prove to be wrong.

Re: Mushroom Veggie Burger Recipe (Vegan and Gluten-free)

Nutritional yeast an excellent idea. Number the seats, from 1 to N. If a press briefing has time for X questions, have a computer pick X + 10 random integers from the range 1 to N. The press secretary then uses the list to call out the numbers, one by one, in sequence. When a reporter's seat number is called, the reporter can ask a question or pass.

This is fair and easy. Perhaps the program could assign a lower weight to numbers already chosen — or eliminate from the range of choices — until all numbers have been called upon at least once. Then reset and begin again.

This would make it fair.

Re: Three Really Expensive Razors and Why You Might Want to Shave With Them

No, the text "this list" in that post above (in the second sentence) still has the link. I will also add 2-4 Roma tomatoes, chopped, and probably also 1/2-1 cup cooked intact whole grain — probably (unpolished) millet, since that's what I have on hand, but it might have been kamut or whole grain rye or hulled barley another time.

Re: Studies on Millet Nutrition: Is It a Healthy Grain?

Very helpful.
