I agree with you on Trump but it is accurate to say that Sanders identifies as a Democratic Socialist. He is not a Democrat.

I'm curious as to why Senator Sanders is involved in this discussion. He isn't a Democrat. I'm n fact he re-registered as an Independent after he lost the primary.

Clarence, I too was born and raised in Middletown OH although my parents migrated from Michigan. My dad worked at Armco Steel.

J.D. Vance's book speaks to me personally because my roots are blue collar although my dad was a labor Democrat and my mom a liberal Republican (yes there were those at that time). In fact I was involved with the civil rights movement in the late '60s & early '70s, was a member of Jim Holloman's 2nd Baptist Church, and can thank that decision for getting me involved in the modern feminist movement.

I follow your columns regularly, am proud to say we came from the same neck of the woods. A special thanks for this one.

The reason the Obama administration hasn't pursued reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine is that it would surely draw a court challenge and, given its history, would likely be struck down again. Perhaps, if he could get Merrick Garland confirmed to the court its prospects would improve.

He has not record of building consensus with either house of Congress and has attracted no supporters (endorsements) from any members of either house. That speaks volumes to me. I don't want to elect a president who then crashes & burns our economy while trying to force his ideas on those who won't buy them.

Our mainstream media does little actual reporting these days. What they do is called Take Dictation. When the Republican of the moment leaks a secret or puts out a press release the media publish it. They don't ask questions or even bother to verify its accuracy.

Fiorina is worse than a hypocrite. She's a liar. This morning on MTP she stated repeatedly that tax payers are paying for abortions when that is forbidden by the Hyde amendment. No tax payer dollars are paying for abortions in this country and Chuck Todd should have called her on it.

Looks as if Jake Tapper tried for the "most moderate" of the GOP candidates who participated in one of the debates and John Dickerson is obviously showcasing the most serious Democrat & the least serious Republican candidate. If I watch any of these shows it's likely to be Face the Nation.

Jerry Brown is my hero today. Hurd immunity is real and people who seek to protect the greatest number of people will immunize their children unless they have a legitimate medical reason not to. Living in a community brings with it some responsibilities and this is one of them.

Of course it has that right but it doesn't have the right to victimize people who disagree with it. IMO the problem lies in the fact that Israel wants to be both a democracy and a theocracy. It isn't possible. They need to choose.

The problem is that Boehner snuck in a bail-out for the big banks so this budget is just not acceptable. If it doesn't pass the Dems get the blame and if it does, the banks get a HUGE Christmas gift.

I heard an interview on NPR the other day in which a British man explained that Britain had abolished the Grand Jury in 1933 and that he doesn't understand why the U.S. still has such an antiquated system. He mentioned that the U.S. is known to be open and opined that secret Grand Juries are just antithetical to that.

Perhaps the answer to our Secret Grand Jury problem is to abolish it.
