I cursed the fact they wouldn't let me use my crutch (that white eraser tape) to fix all my typos. Luckily I passed the spelling part of the test with flying colors.

The Google test sounds exponentially harder. The other thing that strikes me from their video is how they claim to have a "mix of people," but they are in fact very homogeneous: white/Asian, under age 30, and supersmart techies. It's been interesting watching how that worldwide cohort of likeminded people are changing our world.

Twitter's recruitment video has a very different flavor, but a similar cast of characters: http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: http://happytoshare.tumblr.com/post/456818440

Here's the YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: Happy to Share - Our beautiful & cute 6-year-old springer spaniel,...

Tanner spent last night at the vet following the beginning of chemotherapy, but came home as jaunty and cute as ever (although he's now sleeping). Hope that lasts a long time...

Re: Happy to Share - Super-cool NYTimes interactive graphic comparing how the unemployed spend their day vs. the employed. Of course, that's if they can afford that adult education that shows up in the chart.

Re: Mini-hiatus

Glad you liked "Do Androids Dream..." My uncle was one of the original producers of "Blade Runner," and I remember him up at our family cabin really working over the script adaptation (it sounded REALLY weird to me as a kid), talking about dealing with difficult Philip Dick, and saying they were lining up Dustin Hoffman(!) to play the lead character. Later on he told Ridley Scott stories. He hated Scott because the director (a former set designer) was such a perfectionist about every detail in the background of shots that the cost overruns were spectacular. Of course, Scott ended up filming a classic...

Re: BMD Love Blog

This is great--didn't know there was a "best of craigslist."

Re: Job Losses Escalated in February - mediabistro.com: MediaJobsDaily

All of us who are out of work are freaked out by the growing numbers of friends and family also losing their jobs. The stats say 9 out of 10 Americans still have their jobs, but certain fields, such as traditional media like books, magazines, and newspapers, are being hit extra hard. It's devastating. But what's really scaring me and my friends is the fact that our field is frozen. No one is hiring right now, no matter what your credentials. And the future is murky: Once the economy rights itself, whenever that is, what will remain of our beleaguered industries? Where do writers and editors go to get salaried work these days?
