Having a bunch of people singing to me would do my head in. I'd much rather see action and not tunes.

Re: Is God Sovereign Over Human Disability?

While I find the added descriptions somewhat insightful, what came to my mind is the fall of man and the curse we are under.

To say that all disability is for our own good so "that the works of God might be displayed" I think is stretching what was intended by that passage of Scripture. I personally believe that Jesus said what He said for that guy perosnally - and not to imply on all of mankind in general.

My sister in law just died of a horrible brain tumour which made her blind and crippled for the last years of her life. Trust me, there was nothing of God's glory on display here. Only the effects of the fall for all to see.

Re: How Could God Kill Women and Children?

God's specific instructions were the total destruction of everything in the land. By understanding who these people were, gives us a glimpse into why God would order such a thing. It was Saul's disobedience to this request by God that lost him his kingship. In addition, the current trouble spots in Israel, i.e. Gaza, West Bank and Golan Heights – all have ties going back to Israel NOT completely carrying out God’s specific instructions.

I'd encourage you to do your homework on the Nephilim and the implications of their existence on planet earth before and after the flood.

God's instructions here were to destroy the descendents of the Nephilim in the land - sparing no one - man, woman, child and even livestock. If you look at the parallels between this passage and what happened before the flood, you see that God again is dealing with a gene pool defect in the land.

A scheme of the devil to thwart the “Seed of the Woman” being born through Abraham’s line. God’s punishment of the Jews and their subsequent 40 years wandering through the desert is because they feared these giants. Only Joshua and Caleb had the faith to believe in God’s deliverance and this was to be established through the total destruction of the people in the region.

People will scoff at this and that's OK - I have no issue with being ridiculed. The story of the Nephilim is bizarre to say the least. But if passages like this are approached from a proper Biblical understanding of the context of the time, people are able to see a loving God making way for His Messiah to be born through the people of Israel.

Re: How Could God Kill Women and Children?

I have great respect from John Piper but I feel, on this question, he misses the point. The main reason the Jews feared the land was the giants - the Nephilim and their descendants. Satan had 400 years to populate the region with such creatures and it was the 10 spies reprt of these giants that made the people fear and lack trust in God.

Only Joshua and Caleb believed God could deliver them - despite the existence of these giants. And when, 40 years later they did enter the land, God instructed Joshua to kill everything to rid the gene pool problem in the land - just like the way God did the same with the flood.

Re: Abortion and Minnesota Laws on Cruelty to Animals

I hate it when perspective is lost on mankind.
