That is EXACTLY how I felt when I started studying for the GRE (then kicked the GRE's ass).

I really like how they've tried to make a pun out of "prep" and "prepared," even though "prep" is just short for "prepare."

I grew up doing competitive dance, and several of my dance friends would make fun of my small (ok, let's be real: non-existent) boobs frequently, including smacking me in the chest and asking, "Does that even hurt?" Spoiler: it did hurt.

I recommend vacuuming it (and your entire apartment) (and washing all bedding) but more because of the actual fleas than the theoretical bedbugs.

You wouldn't necessarily have any flea bites if they had fleas. Fleas apparently prefer dogs and cats to humans, I guess because they can actually live on them. I know two people who slept in bed every night with dogs who had fleas but didn't get bitten themselves. (Meanwhile, if I even think about fleas they infest my house permanently.) If they are chewing at fleas, that could be bad, because swallowing a flea can give you a tapeworm, because nature apparently thinks it's cute to layer pests inside pests like matryoshka dolls. But if you're taking them to the vet anyway, this information is sort of meaningless because the vet will tell you real stuff!

There are differences but that is not one of them. On the bright side, you didn't use "embarazada" to mean "embarrassed," which is of course the classic gringo mistake: you make a grammar mistake, try to say you're embarrassed, and end up saying you're pregnant. Usually this only leads to you getting even more embarrassed and/or pregnant.

My boyfriend is basically the most "into music" person in the world (both his parents have been professional musicians, he was composing music for local theater companies in high school, he can play like 70 instruments, etc.), but he hates music during makeouts, because it is distracting. So...there's that. Which I guess kind of raises the question of if you'll be doing the cataloging while you make out. I think that would be a bit distracting as well, but that's just me.

I also woke myself up scratching at a bite last night, but then I realized it was a mosquito bite instead of a flea bite and rejoiced. It itches like a motherfucker, but the bug that gave it to me is not reproducing in my carpet. I have never been so happy about a bug bite.

There is a huge roller derby scene here in Austin. It's the kind of thing that I want to want to participate in. If I actually tried it, I know I wouldn't like it, but it's rad as hell that it exists. My boyfriend's band just played at a match, but of course I was in California when it happened, SIGH.

How are Sarah Palin and the Tea Baggers "street smart"? They're very good at getting attention, sure, but they haven't been able to actually turn that into real power. Sarah Palin lost the election, remember, and the Republican party is in a moment of huge crisis because half of them think the Tea Baggers are the future and half of them can't stand the Tea Baggers. But even if we assume for the sake of the argument that they WERE street smart...a huge percentage of these people literally believe that Obama was born in Kenya, not to mention that he's a socialist, communist, and fascist at the same time. No amount of street-smart-ness could make up for that kind of stupidity.

And let me tell you, my dad is basically the definition of the upper class/elite white person she's talking about. He's a millionaire mutual-funds manager. He's also basically the definition of the college-educated person she's talking about: he got his BS from UCLA and his MBA from Stanford. He's a smart person, but you know what? He doesn't believe in evolution, because the church tells him not to. If you try to present any scientific evidence to him, he dismisses it by saying, "Those scientists think they're so smart, they think they know everything." Which is basically just a specific version of the generalized line in that Asimov quote, "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge." He's not stupid, he just has an anti-intellectual streak because of his politics – but it has nothing to do with rich vs. poor. It has to do with conservative vs. liberal and religious vs. secular, but not rich vs. poor.

And he's not the only upper class/elite white person who refuses to believe in things that are patently true; most of the people in positions of power in the Republican party are even worse than him. They don't believe in global warming, they say Obama is a socialist, and so forth. It's entirely possible that Asimov meant that quote in a completely different way than I'm interpreting it, but the way I see it, the kind of anti-intellectualism he's talking about doesn't divide rich from poor or even educated from uneducated but open-minded and curious (usually liberal) from closed-minded and willfully ignorant (usually conservative).

I clicked over and started reading these out loud to my boyfriend for a laugh. I asked him what he would think if a girl sent him a thank you card after a date. He said that if she was like this lady and got all her ideas about womanhood from old TV shows, he wouldn't be that surprised, "but if I'm dating a girl who dresses like June Cleaver, she better be COVERED in tattoos."
