Yo, Matt, I have to 100% agree with you. New Atlantis has a real spooky vibe! It's like the kind of song that plays at the beginning of a horror movie when we see a montage of a family moving into/unpacking their stuff in a new house that's full of ghosts. Jay just doesn't get it!

Also, so excited for the Halloween Countdown in whatever form it takes. It's something I've been looking forward to every year for the past...49 years or so.

The best thing about your writing is how empathetic it is. You are so good at tapping into now only what makes something great, but the ways in which anything can become meaningful. Not a lot of people write about that kind of thing, the small stuff that we hold onto for our entire lives for reasons that are never entirely clear.

And the world kind of sucks right now - it's kind of always sucked but right now seems especially bad. We need more shit like this.

Assuming you mean Thanos since he's the only real villain in the movie, of course Endgame relied on him. Endgame was a direct sequel to Infinity War. Thanos hadn't been defeated yet. And a huge chunk of the MCU was all about building up to the confrontation with Thanos.

Meanwhile, in Star Wars Emperor Palpatine had already been defeated, had absolutely no presence in the sequel trilogy, and then just showed up without explanation and took the wind out of the sails of Kylo Ren who was the most logical choice of villain for the sequels.

I disagree with many of your other points as well (though definitely not all of them), but this one is the one that made the least amount of sense to me.

From the first trailer that came out for this movie I had the sick feeling that this was going to happen. And with each subsequent trailer and poster she continued to seem like she just didn't exist anymore. Rose was one of my favorite parts of The Last Jedi. Like you said, she was one of the only major Star Wars characters that was just a normal person living under the terrible rule of space Nazis. It was an interesting view of the universe that we've never gotten before.

Here's hoping that Rian Johnson makes another Benoit Blanc movie and let's Kelly Marie Tran be the main character.

But Smash Bros...isn't a port. The gameplay mechanics are completely revamped, the graphics are better, it includes every character ever in a Smash game plus several new ones, over 900 songs, and a standalone adventure mode. By your logic Brawl is just an enhanced port of Melee.

Jennifer isn't the bookish one in Jennifer's body, her friend is. I remember it being a pretty decent movie actually. Nothing too special though.
Young Frankenstein is far superior to Dracula Dead and Loving It, but they're both good movies.

The main thing you need to know is that From Hell is AWFUL. Just...a failure in every way. Partially because the comic is masterful (and I don't even like Alan Moore) but even beyond that the movie is just stupid. Don't ever watch it.

So I've seen a lot of people online talk about the sex scene as a way to bind the kids together recently but that's not the point. The blood oath is what binds them together. The sex scene is about them losing their childhoods. It's a very not subtle metaphor.
It's weird, for sure, but I get the point of the scene. The whole book is about fear and the things that scare us. And sex is scary when you're a kid in the midst of puberty. And the fact that the scene happens during a sequence in which we're jumping back and forth between them as kids and them as adults is, again, not subtle at all.

And the reason they do it, the reason they have to give up their childhoods, is because it's the only way to make Pennywise's power not affect them anymore. It was an artistic overreach by king, but it fits thematically with the rest of the book.

Also this wasn't the book that King was drugged up while writing. That was Cujo.

As for the Deadlights, that's Pennywise's true form. He's an extradimensional being that takes the form of living lights in a kind of collective consciousness. When it takes people into the Deadlights it's more like it's digesting them into its being. It's never really made clear what exactly the Deadlights are cus it's scarier that way. But there are hints of what they are in some of King's other books.

Okay so the easy counterpoint here is, if you want an "exclusive challenge" that's why the good lord gave us Platinum trophies. Real simple. Make a trophy that's just "beat the game on hard mode" and the people who can't play on hard mode can't get that or the platinum trophy. You still get your ego boost, they get to enjoy the game.

Also I've never had an xbox so I don't know what the platinum trophy equivalent is.

So there's this movie called "A Tale of Two Sisters." It's a Korean horror movie and the ending makes me cry literally every time I watch it. I found it by chance at 3am on the IFC channel when I was like 16 and that shit has stuck with me ever since.

There's this lovely waltz that plays throughout the movie and it hits right at the end of the movie and the screen fades out to a still frame that is devastating.

It's a beautiful movie and all of yas should watch it!

Ooooooooh I loved these books as a kid! And I remember this special being pretty good. Lots of dark colors and relative spookiness. I still have all the books and now I think I have to read them!

Hoooooooly crap! I loved this movie as a kid. Loved it to the tune of renting it from Blockbuster about 5 times a month. I'm sure everyone else in my family wound up hating since I watched it so much. That droid thing that kills one of the aliens at the beginning used to scare the crap out of me too.

Man, I haven't thought about this movie in probably over a decade.

When I was really young - had to be 6 or 7 - I was scrolling through some channels late at night on Halloween looking for a good spooky movie. I was a wimp about scary stuff up until I was in high school but I couldn't stop looking for it, especially on Halloween. I remember that my parents had gone to bed and i was all alone with all the lights off and I stumbled upon Halloween - specifically the scene when Michael kills Laurie's friend Annie. Seeing it then it seems incredibly real, the choking sounds she makes were spot on and when Michael slashes her with the knife and she goes quiet...man I had nightmares for weeks.

It was so bad that I never watched the rest of the movie until just tonight. Seeing it now, the choking sounds are still pretty terrible but when she actually dies the actress like...does something weird with her eyes and it's not believable. But man did it fuck my shit up as a kid. Also, now that I've seen the whole movie I really like it. Still think Halloween 3 is better though.
