I can't think of anything worse than playing an activity that is designed specifically for social interaction, solo. If you are playing a ttrpg solo, why not just read a book? Or play a Crpg?
My only problem with cards is that most "cards" are just some form of plastic. Not actual paper. The board game industry has gone way too far into plastic waste. It used to be really good with chipboard and wood tokens. Now every kickstarter is 20lbs of plastic crap.

I haven't played fantasy since the 90s. Its the game that drew me into the painting hobby. I enjoyed the dark tolkien-esk classic fantasy and used the models for DnD. I'm not partial to the over the top hyper-fantasy of AoS. Although the models do look very nice, I don't own any since they are priced astronomically high just for a collector.
I felt really bad that GW basically used its customers to playtest a game at their expense for over a year before putting out proper rules. Yes AoS is in its best place its ever been, but that is a pretty low bar coming from one of the most slapdash unplayable games ever released on the public.

This is like saying that amputees are better for having their limbs cut off because NOW they have to get CrEaTiVe. I agree, primaris are WAY better models than the old scupts. BUT creating a second, better tier of marine did NOT help. It made all existing marine armies second class citizens. They should have just said "These are marines now, deal with it".

This right here! Space marines break game = Short term sales boost while everyone buys new marines for 6 months. Then they fix it right before releasing "box of xenos". "New GW" is as bad as "old GW" just with a better PR department.

Hmmm maybe they shouldn't be writing new rules for their game EVERY MONTH?! I seem to recall 8th edition was supposed to mean an end to codexes. Instead we got codexes and nearly mandatory rule update books on top of that. sigh.

I haven't played a game of 40k in over a year. My opponent pool is gone due to this las price hike. And I would feel downright dirty talking someone into starting the game new. I used to watch 40k games on youtube almost every day. I haven't watched one in about 4 months. Remember when 8th came out and they said "No codexes, every rule in 1 book forever!" That was a dirty lie. I'm not sure who is going to be left playing their big games in a few years.

Yes Moffat has a style that is so unmistakably modern British that I don't enjoy it any more. Works somewhat for dr. Who, but not Dracula.

GW is raising their prices faster than inflation dictates, plain and simple. They have already priced themselves out of the realm of "hobby gaming" as far as I am concerned. Average board game price $50-$100, vs. $150 GW "starter" sets. Board game models from CMON have equivalent quality (or better) sculpts, Bandai model kits are more technically advanced molds (compare a realgrade or HG model to a knight), all for less money. The only thing keeping them afloat is their world IP.

You think GW is going to let you pay $30 once and update your online rulebook forever instead of selling you a $50 book every 6 months. HAHA good luck with that. I've been in the hobby for 3 decades and have witnessed the CCGification of 40k. Its basically turned into Magic the Gathering with miniatures. They sell you new rules every 6 months to completely change the meta to drive sales to whatever they want.
