I think Rand was a self-centered moron who has unfortunately inspired generations of people with no thought for the good of society, but only for the good of their own wants.

Re: vin. poésie. vertu.- As you know, Fox will be broadcasting the World...

Hah, I'm sorry. Had very strange dreams
last night that I can't quite remember, and when I woke up, it was still
dark because the weather is awful. Oh well. Going after some possible anti-feminists who misuse irony on the internet wasn't really my cup of tea. That being said, because The Patriarchy is kind of the antithesis of that, it makes me laugh on a regular basis. Keep it up.

Re: Fuck Tumblarity Script - interpellate

Thank god for this. There are plenty of people out there who agree with her for whatever reason. If one just goes out there and says, "Your Bible is wrong and you are wrong and you are a bigot," it just doesn't go anywhere. My issue is with the way she's making her argument. Perhaps you see more merit in it than I do. However, I've read a lot of what she has to say (even before those ridiculous ads came out), and it all seems to boil down to, "If I say I don't like gay marriage and the government says it's OK, people are going to call me a bigot and I don't want to let them do that."

Her argument seems to have absolutely nothing to do with the self and more with the fact that she doesn't want to be villified 50 years down the line in the same manner that we villify those who fought against interracial marriage (a subject to which she often compares her own battle).

If you pick apart her argument, she simply wants to legislate anything, anywhere, that religious folks might find offensive. The problem is that she only looks at it from a Catholic perspective. Of course, her compatriots also jumped on the Muslim cabbies who had issues with driving around people with alcohol. Where do you draw the line? Some of them wanted legislation preventing these cabbies from following their conscience. Abortion, gay marriage... because these are "Christian" issues, get the opposite treatment and personal, religious reaction is all that matters.

I guess that's why I don't find the Kashrut argument as frivolous as you do. It's all the same when you get right down to it.

Re: Just when I think I can’t be any more excited... - interpellate

Ack, this is soooooo exciting.
