I also have an IT degree so hope IT questions will not be overly difficult. I am just getting into the studying and plan to take exam late Oct or early Nov. Good Luck to you on your next exam.

Re: CPA Exam Business Discussion

I have heard that too. I would not think that it would happen until at least 2011 at this point. Hopefully we will all be done by then and not have to worry about it. Your best bet would be to look on the AICPA website for specifics. When it happens I am sure it will be well publicized in advance.

Re: CPA Exam Financial General Discussion Thread

Jeff is right, according to the Content Specification Outline, Gov't/NFP equate to 18-24% of the exam and since I have been told in my review course that getting a simulation on the subject is very remote. So crunching the numbers this equates to approx 1 in 5 of the multiple choice questions should refer to Gov't or NFP. I only mention this because I know of an individual who failed with a 73 and her only weak area compared to those who passed between 75-80 was Gov't/NFP. I also believe that doing well on the multiple choice will make or break your exam since they are worth approx. 70% of your overall score. I spent plenty of time studying Gov't/NFP and am happy to say that I passed FAR.

Re: CPA Exam Financial General Discussion Thread

I agree with spstarla78. I would retake FAR.. I took AUD in April last window and failed with a 73. I did not open or study for AUD while study for and passing FAR this window. After 3 1/2 months I studied for 3 weeks (approx 55 hrs) and retook AUD this window. I have not received my score but I will be severely disappointed if I fail because even after the long break everything I did seemed like a review. When I walked out of the AUD exam nothing and I mean nothing on the exam surprised me the second time around. I do realize the AUD is not the beast that FAR is but you are so close it is not like you bombed the first time. If you decide to retake FAR be sure to cover the material from start to finished and then throw some extra time in any part that you were weak on based on your diagnostic report. I wish well regardless of your decision.

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions July/August 2009 Wave 2

Yes, it does. If you received your score in the mail but it is not on the NASBA website and your state has online reporting, it is possible that NASBA has your information incorrect. I would suggest that you contact your NASBA coordinator and check it out.

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions July/August 2009 Wave 2

Since Oklahoma is a snail mail state for releasing scores. I would recommend you contact your State's Accountancy Board since virtually 100% of BEC scores are usually released. My guess is the hold up is with your state board. They should be able to tell you one way or another if they have your score or are in wave 2. Good Luck!

Re: CPA Exam Business Discussion

Yes, BEC is not adaptive like the rest where if you do well on testlet 1 then the other get harder. So if the 2nd and 3rd testlet seemed easy is because they were or you just knew the material. Good Luck. I am currently studying for BEC with Becker and any study tips would be appreciated.

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions July/August 2009 Wave 1

Just go to the Nasba.org website and click on cpa exam and then your state. If your state have online reporting you will be able to put in your section id and date of birth to get your score. If there is no place to put your section id and date of birth then NASBA should direct you on how to get your scores from your state. Scores are released in two waves by section from the AICPA. Wave 1 for this test window was from 7/1 to 8/7. There is no guarantee if you take the exam during the period that you will be in wave 1. Wave 1 release is complete. It you took the exam after 8/7 then you are in wave 2. Wave 2 predictions are at the top of this blog. There is no way to get your score early from the AICPA or NASBA.

Hope this helps.

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions July/August 2009 Wave 1

I agree with Loch_Ness comments. especially about government and not for profit. Since it is remote that you will get a simulation on the subject the whole percentage between the two subjects total 18-24%. Doing the math that would equate to approx. 1 of 5 multiple choice questions relate to one of those subjects.

I used Becker and passed FAR with an 80 this past window. It is a beast I studied approx a total of 180-200 hours over approx 10 weeks doing the multiple choice questions and listening to the all the lectures again.

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions July/August 2009 Wave 1

CPAINPA,

I am not sure how PA does it, but here in IN, I receive a letter for a passing score with the expiration date of each section and for FAR my expiration date is 28 Feb 2011 for the exam taken on 4 Aug 2009. It does appear that the end date is the end of the month. Your best bet is to contact NASBA if you are a NASBA state or your state Board of Accountancy to be sure.

Good Luck!!

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions July/August 2009 Wave 1

Actually this situation has come up before. If you think you might have passed it and money is not an issue, then I would letit ride and wait for the score. However, if money is an issue and you really feel like you did very bad and you do not want to fork over an another exam fee (I wouldn't), I would just leave to bad luck and retake the exam in the next window assuming time is also not an issue. This could allow you to get that extra studying done to make sure you pass or know the material that much better.

Having said all of this, I have not taken REG but I have taken FAR and I would not want to retake FAR under any circumstances if I had a choice. Best of Luck in whatever decision you choose.

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions July/August 2009 Wave 1

I was under the impression that NASBA would not allow you to register for the same exam twice. I wonder if you have a life or a job. My situation would not allow the time for a study schedule like yours full time employee and family with six kids. I have no doubt if you put in the time as you state you will pass with flying colors. I think if anyone puts in the serious time they can pass any of the exams. I used Becker and spent approx. 180-200 hours over 10 weeks doing MCQ, progress test, simulations, final exams and listening to their lectures and am happy to say I passed with an 80. Not great but will take it.

Good Luck!!!!

Re: CPA Exam Financial General Discussion Thread

Constantly review previous sections as you progress. If you wait till you get through the material to go back to the beginning it is almost like starting over. FAR is a beast, There is so much material and undoubtedly some material will be hardly touched on the exam. I am happy to say I did pass FAR this window with an 80 using Becker. Not great but I will take it. I spent about 10 weeks studying totaling 180-200 hours of lecture and working MCQ, six weeks might be pushing it unless you can get 20-25 hours of studying per week.

Crunching the numbers be sure to spend a fair amount of time on Gov/NFP because these two sections combine for approx. 18-24% of the exam material. I have been told the likelihood of getting a simulation on these two area is remote so 18-24% equates to approx 1 in 5 multiple choice question should cover one of those two areas. I think knowing Gov/NFP can make or break your exam.

Good Luck on your studying and exam.

Re: CPA Exam Financial General Discussion Thread

I am not much of a reader. I am using Becker and I do listen to their lectures multiple times. While working the MCQ, if I get sometime wrong I will always read the explanations for the answers especially the one I selected plus hit the "Show Text" button at the bottom and read the section of the text to get a complete understanding. But I can say that I did not read any chapter from start to finished. I passed FAR with an 80. Also kept track of my study time which included over 110 hours of working the MCQ not counting the times that I listen to the lecture. If I added the lecture time it probably totaled 180-200 hours. I also worked the progress test, simulated exams and simulations. Did both final exams in Becker and printed and reviewed every question I got wrong and the simulations.

It is possible if you put in the time.

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions July/August 2009 Wave 1

I just retook AUD (scored 73 first time on 4/21) today and nothing surprise me on the exam after just 3 weeks of studying (approx 55 hrs). I know how you feel leaving an exam can be no indication of how you scored but if I do not pass I will be severely disappointed. I feel that that you should retake REG sooner than later. Restudy was more like a review even after 3 months and I agree with that the material is more likely to change for REG then BEC. Also, I studied for and passed FAR (80) in between the two AUD exams.

Good Luck regardless of which way you go.

Re: CPA Exam Scores and Results Predictions July/August 2009 Wave 1

From my experience, the scores pretty much come out all at once.

Re: CPA Exam Auditing Discussion

One more thing. Test Strategy. Since it appears that time is not an issue for most people on the AUD exam. I plan to take plenty of time to review the MCQ questions in each testlet before I move on. I believe I rushed way to fast through them the first time around. The MCQ was my weakest area compared to the simulations and communication based on my diagnostic report.

Again, Good Luck.

Re: CPA Exam Auditing Discussion

Ada,

It can be tough to find the motivation to continue. I failed AUD with a 73 last window and had to take FAR next. Course is through employer so do not have time to retake AUD or choice of which exam I could take next. FAR was incredible long and difficult but I manage to pass with an 80. I told myself that I was going to give it my all. I have a wife and six kids and if I can do it so can you. Plan to retake AUD on 8/26 with just 3 weeks of study time. Started from square one, put study plan down on paper and kept track of every minute I studied. I feel that if I put in 60+ hours this time since most of this seems like a review for me I should be able to get those last two points. I feel if you put in the time, no matter what section it is, it will pay off. I put in more than 110+ of study besides watching the lectures for FAR and it paid off.

Good Luck, I wish you well.

Re: CPA Exam Auditing Discussion

I have read in past post where candidates was able to call the VA Board of Accountancy to get there scores. I need only 2 more points and like you really do not want to retake a third time. I just spent 7 hours yesterday and 6.5 hours today studying. I plan spending my time doing a general review and hitting the parts that I was weak on based on the diagnostic report from my first exam. I took one of the final exams in Becker yesterday and plan to review what I missed on that also. Best of Luck on Wednesday, I hope we both get what we are looking for.

Re: CPA Exam Auditing Discussion

Only the Non NASBA states.
