I make things out of plastic bags, juice pouches, soda tabs, metal and plastic bottle caps, potato chip bags, milk cartons, straws, scrap yarn and fabric, used cds, cardboard, t-shirts, etc. I make books, bags, lunch boxes, back packs, notebooks, toys, wreaths, ornaments, etc. For 3 years I collected juice pouches from participating elementary school classrooms to recycle.

I also like to spread the love of eco-crafting. I teach workshops and do demos at various locations in my area on how to recycle these items in your own home. I also have my own local access t.v. show where I also demonstrate how to make different eco crafts. I also have guests who talk about other ways in which we can be more environmental. This will be my 3rd year participating in my town's Earth Fair, and it is my 2nd year organizing it.

I also volunteer at the local farmers' market. I was my town's May 2009 recycling champion. I've been in the newspaper twice so far because of my eco-crafting. I attend my town's recycling comity meetings. I'm on my church's green comity. I participate in my town's town wide clean up every year (picking up litter). I recycle, compost, have a rain barrel, and practice zero waste in my trash can (throwing away as little as possible). My kids and my husband are also very good recyclers as a result. My mom has also become a semi-eco-crafter as well. I am a moderator in the Ravelry group Trash to Treasure, and I'm also a moderator on my town's green facebook page.

After all of this, the way that I am most environmental is that I am a vegetarian. In April I'll have been one for 16 years. My husband and kids are also vegetarians. I am sure that my oldest will remain a vegetarian for the rest of his life.

Sorry for the lengthy post. www.textiles4you.blogspot.com

Re: FatBottomBags starts a fire

Looks good. I love the snowflake! I was wondering what the number next to the bag's name means. It's called "Its Easy Being Green." I show people different ways in which they can be more environmental via eco-crafts and different guests who talk about and show what they do. I am surprised by how many viewers that I have. It's not something that I even thought about doing in 2008.

Re: Giveaway Week, Day 4: Sew Liberated

I'm letting go of recycling juice pouches in classrooms this year, even though I should do it to help the environment. I did it for the last 3 years for up to 5 classrooms at a time. It is just to much for me to keep up with right now. Instead I'm showing people how they can recycle them in their own home.

Re: Giveaway Week, Day 1: Applique Your Way

Stash bust. However sometimes the variety and cost of the indie store does not always work for me. The indie stores that I like to shop in are not close to home. One is 1 hour away and the other is 7 hours away (when I visit my mom). I don't feel welcome in my local yarn store, plus they don't have much to choose from. I do like my local fabric store, but it is to pricey. Recently I bought a sewing machine from a local sew n vac place. They are friendly and very helpful. I am going to be taking some classes from them next month.

Re: I Love to Create: Halloween Countdown Calendar!

I love this idea!!!

Re: Giveaway: Creating a Blog Audience

Building a bigger blog audience is a two part thing for me. One is to promote myself. I sell the items that I make. I also have my own local tv show, and would like to expand my viewing audience as well. The second reason is to get more people out there inspired to make eco friendly crafts. I like to inspire via showing what I am making and giving how tos. Pretty soon I want to start be more pro active about cross promoting other people who are doing amazing things. I do a little of this, but not enough.

Re: Pick Your Brain?

I am trying not to spend a lot of money right now. My mother-in-law gets it in her area (NJ), but I don't (MA). There is also a very small time cable channel that has some crafting on it. The audio is not so good, and its like a bigger version of public access. However it is out there.

Re: Where did all the Craft TV go?

Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims teamed up to make their own internet quilting show after Simply Quilts was canceled. They had to wait for Alex's contract with HGTV ran out before she could help work on it. You have to pay money and subscribe to it, otherwise they couldn't afford to make it happen. They do have sponsors as well. The benefit of having it on the internet is that they have more freedom than the networks would ever allow.

That is a great idea to take and run with for other crafts. Don't forget your public access tv. I am taping my 1st show tonight, as it turns out. I've combined my love of arts and crafts with my love of recycling and turned it into a tv show in my area. If I can do it, anyone can. Yes its public tv and won't reach millions. However it will reach those in my area. Plus in my town it is free to do it if you are a resident.

One day a network will get started just for crafts. Last year there was no "green" channel, and now there is.

Vickie, whatever happened to your podcast? I miss it. Since crafting isn't on tv anymore, I am a podcast fiend.

There are so many crafting ones out there, good and not so good. There are also video podcasts, so you still get to see how things are made.

Re: Waste-free Wreath!

I just made a patriotic version of this. http://textiles4you.blogspo...
