How hard would it have been for them to make it an "opt in" feature, rather than forcing every user to see those annoying messages and buttons that won't go away. With no way to turn it off, no less!

Well, it's not something I anticipate ever doing, but if I did, I sure wouldn't need anyone's approval. ;) In my area, I think NON-tattooed people are the minority. Lots and lots of tribal style tattoos. I do prefer those like the one in your picture to the colorful "pictures."

Interesting that children in Japan play freely with guns, but have very little gun violence. I've been a "no guns" parent for years (though, yes, they *did create their own by chewing toast into gun shapes). I wonder if that would have been different for me if America's gun culture and the prevalence of semi-assault weapons had been different?

Sharks scare me, but I still swim in the ocean, though I stay (mostly) out of deep water. Thankfully we don't have ticks here, but I have a friend in California whose daughter is terribly ill - incapacitated - due to Lyme's Disease. It's pretty scary.

I've never cooked it fresh myself. The canned bamboo I've tried has had a pretty strong flavor. I didn't love it.

Lynda, I live in a place that depends on tourism (Hawaii). Some visitors come with open hearts to enjoy the beauty and culture of the island and add something to the interaction. Some come with money and an attitude of entitlement (though I expect they don't think so). All are welcome here - as income - but some are much more pleasant to deal with than others. I hope that despite your deep pockets you are not just "income" in Wellfleet, but rather one of those visitors that makes it pleasant for the locals to serve you.

I'm in Hawaii where we have a lot of tourists, but a lot of local businesses offer a kama‘aina (local) rate. It's expensive to live here and earning a living can be tough - residents appreciate the break. That said, I just dined out last weekend for a special occasion. It was very expensive (I didn't see the menu in advance). It was fabulous, but it's not someplace I'll be able to support on a regular basis. The restaurant seemed to be full, though. I guess they are doing okay.

I have a love-hate relationship with Earth Day. I get that it helps to focus people on making a difference. But in this day and age, we ALL need to be practicing "Earth Day" EVERY DAY. I really want to see Do the Math. Have you read McKibben's book, "Eaarth: Making a Life on a Tough New Planet" yet? Well worth it. (My plans for Earth Day: plant marigolds to combat root knot nematodes naturally, dry my excess of bananas, move chicken manure to new planter bed, cook a real dinner.... ;) )

I don't love oysters. However, I have fond memories of a "clamming" trip to Bodega Bay on the northern California coast when I was a girl. I think maybe I liked the permission to dig in the mud. ;)
