It creates the scenario that commuting from Kitsap to a mainland job is impossible. Therefore, people employed on the mainland will pull up stakes, as I am doing, and relocate to the Greater Puget Sound Area. The people on the peninsula will be left to the peninsula jobs, and whatever else remains behind. Don't expect Macy's and other such stores to remain behind. And don't expect anything new, either.

My nickname was a nod to a sublime but somewhat venemous character on a classic TV series of 60s. They had humor in those days, without getting all bitched up about it, Karenlee. Something that has been totally fogged over in these pseudo-PLC days. Something you cannot imagine, both mentally and genetically. Anyway, it doesn't matter. In a hundred years, who will care?

I agree, Bob meadows. Someone out there, please explain to us HOW 4 diversely funded and compensated fire departments will cohesively form ONE fire authority with uniform wages and compensation? And taxation? Where is the Blue Fairy with her magic wand?

It's called"fiscal responsibility". I'm a follower of news in the newspapers, for example. Did YOU not read of the Bremerton Fire Department very recent incentives for early fire staff retirement? It was published in this past weekend's Kitsap Sun. This is preceded by articles about a possible incorporation of 2 county and 1 city fire department. What in the hey am I, as a tax strapped taxpayer, supposed to think? WHAT? I'm thinking this: "The fire departments are raiding the henhouse and they want MORE money?" For what? For what?

I can certainly agree with you. If someone wants city-class, 2-minute medical response, well then, they should be moving to Seattle or something. The population density and tax base could support it. If you live in Kitsap District 7, you're a ways out. You cannot reasonably expect a response the same as Bellevue, Seattle, etc.

I'm not sure how to vote on the SKFR levy yet. They quote a lot of numbers and weird abbreviations that I don't understand.

I just want the school district to budget responsibly. And I'm worried about more of my scarce money being drained for the fire department. It's going to come down to: do I need a roof over my head and food to eat or paying moneys to the school and fire districts? Yes, my budget is THAT tight. Excuse me for living if you cannot understand.

I see the county as less and less a viable governmental entity. The annexations of county-regulated property by the cities is simple evidence. The county should be preparing for the incorporation of Silverdale into a city.

I can't say that I support this untimely expansion of the fire district empire when people are losing their jobs, their homes and their livlihoods in this economy. It must be nice to be a firefighter and drive a car that is less than five years old, feed a family and get more than two days off a week than most people.

Hooray for Charlotte! Our precious lifestyle and resources will be safe from mega-condos, mega-housing developments and box stores. They DON'T need to be in Kitsap. One day, the other counties will look enviously at Kitsap and say "How did THEY preserve it all?"
