I hate to be bearer of bad news, but I wouldn't put my trust in Obama. Just look at the news today, he reversed his decision to release torture photos. There are many Bush era policies he isn't reversing.

It's time for Russell Hauge to go, first off they shouldn't be prosecuting these kinds of cases in the first place wasting tax payer money. Secondarily they can't keep track of the time wasted on these cases? If they can't do something as simple as that, then he should not be in charge of any work force. I'm a manager, and I know how many hours are spent on my projects. This is the exact kind of incompetence you don't want running an office. Government should be open and accountable. If you get less, then they should be voted out of office.

You are lumping all the students together, there were 2 different protests, one happened before school, the student had fliers physically taken out of her hands. Simply put, the school will lose against a suit by the second set of students that took the time to comply with the student handbook but were still harassed.

The case does apply since this is protesting what a government agency did. That is suspending a student on the word of another student with no proof. What kind of message does that send? If the student did what said, then police should have been involved. It's counter intuitive to kick someone out on the say so of someone else with out any proof. Taking fliers from a student from the ACLU is a suppression of speech. So is threatening students with expulsion for wearing shirts in protest IE the analog of armbands.

If that's true, then that makes this protest even more legitimate. Something like that wouldn't even hold up in court. The kid needs to get a lawyer and sue the school for violating his right to an education.

You don't seem to understand the 1st Amendment of the Constitution, or Article 1, Section 4 of the State constitution. If there was a crime by the first student then he should have been arrested. I don't understand the whole zero tolerance aspect even if there was a crime committed since, isn't it a bad thing not to educate kids? Punishing someone by kicking them out of school seems self defeating at best.

State Constitution article 1, Section 4:
"SECTION 4 RIGHT OF PETITION AND ASSEMBLAGE. The right of petition and of the people peaceably to assemble for the common good shall never be abridged."

The school is paid for by tax payers, that makes it a Government entity, thus making it a legitimate place to protest.

I'm a pro-choice conservative, that voted for mostly republicans this election, but I did not vote for McCain or Obama. I ran as a Republican PCO during the primary. There was only one choice for me and it was not the Republican party. The Republican party has been taken over by corporate socialist aka Neocons. The Republican party needs to get back to it's roots, think Goldwater. They need to stop going after issues that in reality shouldn't be things legislated at the federal level, if they ever want to get back in power. They have done this to themselves. They need to get back to being a small government party, or become a foot note in history. They need to stop worrying about what consenting adults do in their bedrooms or on their own property as long as it's not harming someone else. The only viable small government party now, seems to be the Libertarians.
