healthy people to try medicade..medicade said they dont count cancer if
it has been 1 year since you have had it ..so I was stuck.. I had to go
to court get denied and appeal to go in front of a real judge to show
all my illness is attributed to having cancer ... I got approved for 1
year depending on what happens with obama care

How can you label Lugar a conservative "voting 90% of the time with Republicans" and then turn around and say he is independent? You can't have it both ways.

Our country is in big trouble. $15 trillion in debt, highest unemployment in decades, and on and on. Those who have been entrenched in Washington politics need to go.

Josh Lybolt was previous YR 1st dist chair and wouldn't get anything started. I have tried to get something going for over 2 years now. Ordway is not in this area very much and I contacted him to see what his intentions were to get a YR started in Lake Co.

Professor Eisenstein why don't you perhaps point out some good points about the Republican party in Lake Co instead of continuously criticizing us. If you really cared, you would be part of the solution instead of part of the problem. We have a new website that we launched last summer at www.TheLakeCountyGOP.com. We already have someone to rebuild it to make it better, but it works for now. We have a monthly e-newsletter that we send out to all on our email list. We have a finance committee started and although our food trailer and donut machine were stolen we will revise our plan to raise money. We had our biggest and best Lincoln Day Dinner. All the US Senate candidates were in attendance except for Behney and we also had the next SOS of State Charlie White, keynote speaker Lt Governor Becky Skillman, treasurer RIchard Mourdock, and AG Greg Zoeller in attendance. It was quite a night, but I'm sure you didn't bother to come.

We are having an announcement next week on our candidate for the circuit court judge. You may know him. We had 13 contested primary races this year. That is a first. People are starting to get involved because they see what we are doing. They see our presence out there more and more. We are working on filling open county positions for the fall. Why don't you step up and run? Oh wait you can't. You always vote democrat.

We will have our Reagan Breakfast again this October and we are working on another county convention. We are not dead we are growing and becoming more successful every day.

Roger Chiabai was removed from office before he died. John Curley was appointed after Chiabai was removed. If Roger Chiabai had not have been removed, we would have MORE "crooked stuff" going on.

I hear the "opposite" of that list includes Marlin Stutzman and Fran Katz. There is a force out there that wants to win at all costs. They do not care about the integrity of the party or promoting our principles and values. Their only concern is money and power that they will get with a win. Apparently Jim Snyder among others have joined that group.

Money and power over the statehouse could bring great things, but at what cost?

I believe another race to watch is House District 16 in Jasper co between newcomer Richard Kallenbach and incumbent Doug Gutwein on the Republican side.

Kreig's opponent was responsible for hiring Hammond democrat councilman and democrat governing board member Dan Repay. Please tell me there were no Republicans qualified for that $107,000 a year job! I can think of at least one right off the top of my head who is better qualified as he has an actual engineering degree which what they wanted in the beginning. I wouldn't support his opponent.

Actually, I had met with Luke Abbott the weekend before the last day to file because he had not signed up down state yet. That is when he told me he was asked not to sign up because the HRCC had run a poll and the results were conclusive that Klein could beat Vandenburgh. That was the first I had heard of any poll. Neither the state party nor the HRCC ever contacted me with their information. Since I still wasn't sure what was going on because no ever bothered to communicate with me, and I didn't want that seat open, I started making calls to recruit someone to run. Fran signed up a couple days later (still no call, email, smoke signal from Klein or HRCC). Then Mr Klein comes to a CP precinct meeting (first time in months) on the day Fran signed up and announced he was also going to sign up. A couple days later (I believe a day before the last day to sign up) he put his name in.

My question is why was all this done so secretively without consulting with the county chairman. And if the HRCC felt Klein was the best candidate to run, according to polling results in 2007 and 2009, why didn't they run him in 2008 and why did he wait until the 2nd to the last day to sign up this year? Did the HRCC know his history with the Lake CO GOP and the CP GOP and try to avoid someone running against him? Were they hoping that I did not catch wind of what was going on so he could sail on through the primary kind of like what the democrats were hoping would happen with George Paras?

On May 4th Republican voters (and some democrats that Klein will recruit as he did before) will decide if they want to put someone back in office who frankly does not have a good track record of running a city (or holding a job...and he only has the Habitat job because his friend Joe Beckman gave it to him) or helping the GOP or they can vote for someone fresh who has a proven record of success in the business world and also helping the GOP. Fran and her husband back in January (before there was ever any thought of Fran running for public office) had committed to me to sponsor the Lake CO GOP Reagan Breakfast this coming October. They have also been gold table sponsors for Lincoln Day and actually paid for their table. Unlike...well I won't mention his name. Fran has political experience in Chicago when she fought to oust a corrupt democratic city alderman. So she knows about political corruption and what it does to paralyze a community. The only negative to Fran is that she shouldn't have waited so long to enter into lake co politics.

A good example is the letter that came out of the Klein campaign to several people. These are the same people who hurt us in the 07 mayoral election and they are trying to hurt us again. They are the same people that claimed to be Republicans and used to hold public office or ran for public office and never helped the party when asked. They have their own selfish agendas and are part of the problem not part of the solution. They are all part of the Bob Corbin, marty wheeler, dan klein, gang that don't want to see the Republican party succeed.

We are moving forward though with a positive message. We will be successful despite their attempts to sabotage the party and our efforts.

Some "anonymous" letters have gone out berating people with nasty language for supporting Fran Katz and also releasing an excerpt of a private email I sent to Mike Gentry and some people at the State house. These people are determined to destroy what we have started to build.

I'm not surprised at the Coats lead. If you ask the average person on the street, they think Coats will be the winner and they've never heard of the other Republican candidates. I've heard Coats on WLS and WJOB radio, but I haven't heard any of the others. He made a big splash when he entered and then everyone assumed Bayh resigned because he was afraid of Coats. I don't happen to subscribe to that theory. I think Bayh knew a long time ago he wasn't going to run again and the timing was merely coincidental. But it's all played well for the Coats/ campaign.

Oscar, having the state party work against you is a totally different topic. The Lake Co GOP is working hard to provide a 2 party system of government. When you had a party just 8 years ago that allowed democrats to be republican poll workers and precinct committeemen and CHAIRMEN there is a lot of work that is involved with just cleaning it up! We have hopefully cleaned that mess up and now are into the second phase of rebuilding.

It doesn't help when you have someone almost of Robert Cantrell's mentality being run by the state in district 19. That person tried to destroy not only the Crown Point GOP but also the county GOP. That is why he is not in office today. But the State doesn't care as neither did my predecessor Roger Chiabai as long as the person has an R after their name and makes them money.

The Lake County GOP is not too divided to offer events for Republicans to attend. The county is hosting a US Congressional Candidate forum on April 10th in Dyer. Then there are at least 2 other candidate forums or meet the candidate dates hosted by individual towns or cities. We had a great showing at Lincoln Day. We had most US Senate candidates as well as Lt Gov Becky Skillman, State Treasurer Richard Mourdock, Attny Gen Greg Zoeller, our next SOS Charlie White, Dee Dee Benke from the RNC and Susan Hammond from the State party. We have many competitive primary races because qualified men and women stood up and said they've had enough and they were ready to take a leadership role by running for office.

We offer a variety of ways to get involved to make a difference in Lake Co.

Just one correction: the Lake County GOP is not "working closely with another candidate to run against Klein." Klein has not signed up as far as I know and has not contacted the LC GOP with any intentions of running. The state never contacted the LC GOP to inform us that they were talking Abbott out of running. We found out by accident. So thanks to the HRCC we were left without a viable candidate to run in dist 19. You have to wonder sometimes whose side they're on!

After we found out we started the recruiting process despite this late date and have found a very qualified and well funded candidate that can beat the democratic opponent in the fall. I understand she is signing up today.

I would disagree that it's Bayh putting Coats in. Here's my take. The people who run the IN state GOP have seen how well Stutzman is doing. But young Marlin is a farm boy/State Senator from northeast IN and doesn't necessarily play with the big dogs. If you're not a lawyer, lobbyist, bundler, or politician from Indy, then you 'aint much in the State GOP eyes or the National Senate Campaign Committee.

So in comes the State party/NRCC and they talk to Pence, Rokita, Dumezich (remember he dropped out before he got in), and Hostettler. Hostettler took the bait but his polling hasn't been too good and no one north of Indy has seen or heard much about him. Pence decides not to get in (he's salivating over the thought of being Speaker of the House, and I don't blame him!), but throws his money and campaign manager behind Don Bates (a virtual unknown and political newbie). Rokita saw an easier opportunity and a chance to keep his roots here in IN when Buyer announced he wouldn't seek re-election. So, exit Rokita from the US Senate list and enter him on the 4th Dist US Congress list.

Now the National committee is getting nervous and frankly so are the Indy guys. "We can't allow some farm boy from outside the 465 Beltway to be our US Senator!" So the National committee says they won't support Stutzman and the Indy boyz start to make phone calls (and we'll never know how many calls they had to make!). They snag Mr Coats, find him a home, set up his campaign, pay to get signatures so he gets on the ballot and voila' we have ourselves a new candidate with gravitas, experience, name recognition, and most importantly National Senatorial Campaign Committee funding!

What remains to be seen, assuming Mr Coats gets his paid signatures and finds his way onto the ballot, is how the voters react to Mr Coats moving back to IN to run for this seat. Remember, we're dealing with a large number of people who are really pissed off at Washington and the good ol boyz club. Mr Coats may find his way onto the ballot, but will he, in the end win. And if someone else wins, like Marlin Stutzman who has been traveling all over the State of IN in Mitch Daniels fashion, will Indy and Washington embrace him with the same money and assistance.

It sounds like the guys in DC don't like the polling numbers and are now trying to pull a rabbit out of the hat with Coats or Pence, etc...Who else are they going to court? Will we see former VP Dan Quayle move back to IN? Perhaps they should believe in a fresh face and someone who has been working hard for this job for quite a few months now instead of someone who's time has come and gone.

I think we're going down a slippery slope if we allow governmental entities to make donations to the charities of their choice. I think we can pretty much all agree that assisting Haiti is a worthwhile cause. What happens though if we get a mayor who wants to donate to an organization like NAMBLA or NOW or some other group that we might be philosophically opposed to?

I also agree with whoever said that it looks bad that Costas is giving that money to a charity where he sits on the board of directors.
