It feels like you've finally met the person you've been looking for when you spot anything Michigan. When I was living in FL we always oooed and ahhhed over the friends we made in the motorhome parks if they revealed they were from MI. We'd sit there and interrogate them about it until we scared them off! There was a relief in knowing these people because it meant that our home still existed without us.

Re: Get Well, Stewie, or, Why I’m Moving Back to Michigan

But really, Lou, why Detroit? I just want to know. I know it's not small town, but there is nowhere to get away. And in the summer all you can do is sit on the freeway for 30 minutes with the sun beating down and the guy in the car next to you puffing a cig while he sexts his 17 year old girlfriend. And there are Lady Gaga billboards EVERYWHERE and I mean EVERYWHERE.

Don't worry, you don't really have to have an answer for me. I don't expect anyone to explain themselves just like I don't expect to have to explain myself to anyone. And in a way, I get it, I really do. Detroit is the epicenter of diversity in Michigan. It is the one place here where you can walk down the sidewalk on any given day, hear three different languages, and also some gunshots.

Re: Cranberry Upside Down Cake has vibrant flavor and color

Looks awesome! Drain well, and transfer into a lightly buttered casserole dish. Pour over the half and half and crumble the feta cheese evenly on top. Mix the breadcrumb with the melted butter in a small bowl and sprinkle evenly over the top. Bake for 15 minutes, or until browned and bubbling. Remove and let rest for 15 minutes before serving.

You could also substitute the feta for blue cheese and the half and half for cream for a richer dish!

Re: What do you think about 'Shooting Michael Moore'?

Whether the documentary is valid or not, why would you show a movie like that in a city that Michael Moore has in many ways revived?
I find it to be stupidity on the part of the filmaker to make such a fuss about it. I'm sure she'd agree that a slim woman shouldn't wear something baggy and unfitted simply because it came from her "section."

Re: Becoming

P.S. If becoming middle-aged doesn't mean giving up some of one's style "rights" then it also doesn't mean one can be condescending towards those simply because they are still in their youth.

Re: Becoming

I really don't think Mare was trying to judge those who shop in the juniors section-- I think she was pointing out the silliness in women dressing inappropriately. The juniors section is full of perfectly stylish yet classy options that a woman of any age can feel proud to wear!

Being that Mare herself seems rather slim I'm sure she wasn't trying to insult the trials of the thin and svelte, but merely making a point that is in no way invalid.

Re: Horse Shows By the Bay 2008

Wow, I bet it felt good to do a show at "home" considering your many travels over the summer!

Re: Naively offensive in Oysterville: Moleskine Chronicles Pt.
