Here's the calculations: bit.ly/94Gx0r

Re: Groupon Smashes Sales Records with Nationwide Gap Deal

Great points Mike, however, the aggressive fees that Groupon traditionally charges merchants usually results in a loss of revenue for them. Here you can plug in the numbers and quickly estimate it based on several factors: http://bit.ly/cQE5by

Oh, and those calculations do NOT include any additional workers the merchants have to hire to handle the increased workload. Don't get me wrong, I think Groupon is great. It's just that most business owners aren't aware of all the costs that are involved.

Re: VMWare Fusion 3 Makes Running Windows on Mac Almost Fun

I'm a Parallels user myself and run Windows XP quite a bit on my MacBook. I think the Microsoft Courier could be the only real threat to the Kindle. Ergonomically it's much better than the Kindle. Its electronic moleskine persona will perform well with students and business professionals. The Courier is definitely a game changer and unlike anything the other tablet/tablet-like competitors are producing. Despite that however, Apple fanboys will ensure that the "iPad" reaches good sales numbers.

Re: RUMOR: Apple Tablet Is an iPhone with a 10.7″ Screen

Unlike others I'm really not that excited about any of these new tablets (Apple "iPad", CrunchPad, etc.). I'm on Firefox 90% of the time but I'd move to Chrome in a heartbeat if it supported RoboForm and a few of the add-ons I use in FF. Chrome is so much lighter and it feels faster. It also seems to perform much better than Firefox when visiting Facebook, which causes FF to freeze for me from time to time.

Re: STATS: Has Twitter’s Growth Peaked?

I'm not so sure it's going to die off anytime soon. Twitter's growth rate in the US began diminishing way back in March and leveled off approximately last May. Global traffic is still rising but I think we'll see the same thing happen for international traffic within the next 6 months. Twitter is becoming increasingly spammy and the less relevant search results filled with online marketers pushing affiliate links don't help. Unless Twitter devs can find a way to reduce the spam to ensure useful search results without restricting user access too much, it's going to have big problems.

Re: Have you made a donation to your WordPress Plugin Developer?

Hey Justin,
I just posted a follow-up article that goes a little more in-depth and discusses some alternatives as well as difficult issues developers are facing. It would be great if you stopped by and shared your thoughts with us. Here it is:

http://tomuse.com/matt-mull...

Re: Have you made a donation to your WordPress Plugin Developer?

I didn't mean to put shame on anyone, honestly. I'm just as guilty as everyone else about not donating every time I download a plugin. I posted that article because I just think people need to be aware of the time and effort plugin developers put into their craft and how little they receive in return. I'm hoping this will increase awareness and maybe we can put our heads together to give back to the devs. :)

Re: Since Everyone Loved Digg For Frames Facebook Follows Suit

You might like the original article about Digg's Diggbar that includes the 5 reasons to break the Diggbar: http://tomuse.com/digg-digg...

Craig Agranoff:
Thanks for linking to my article after using my image. I appreciate that. Most people don't do it! :)
I'm not 100% sure but I actually think Facebook was using the framebar before Digg. Either way, I'm just hoping more publishers will block such spambars. Glad to hear you joined the fight!

I don't know if you saw this but it's actually beneficial to block the Diggbar and other frames. That is, it can lead to better traffic statistics:
http://tomuse.com/3-reasons...

Re: Commenting Systems Comparison: WordPress, Intense Debate, Disqus

Disqus seems to have fixed the problem; blog is not hanging on comment system loading anymore :) Best way to get a hold of anyone is via Twitter nowadays.

Re: Commenting Systems Comparison: WordPress, Intense Debate, Disqus

Now I know what you meant by Disqus being slow. Just wondering what else it would do besides allowing for easy sign in. Thanks for the heads-up, it's the first time I've heard of RPX :)

Re: Top 10 Best Free Online Project Management Application Services

Actually most of them offer free basic plans for a limited number of users. But yes, some offer free 30-day trials too. It just depends on the business model each is using. I'm planning on creating a comparison chart too that should address this. It just takes a great deal of time to assess each on individually and I haven't gotten around to it yet. But you're right; I should, thanks for the nudge :)

Re: Ultimate Review List of Best Web Hosting Providers Compared

Yeah, I haven't tested them myself but I would be interested to hear what you think about them. I do feel that if Intense Debate were to put a priority on social features it would win out over Disqus. But unless they could allow WP plugins to work across the Intense Debate commenting system, I would still prefer to use the default comment system as it allows for total comment customization.

Re: Commenting Systems Comparison: WordPress, Intense Debate, Disqus

That's a really interesting question Jon. I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that one currently. All I know is that when I logged into the blog, Intense Debate recognized me and I was therefore automatically signed in. After installing the Intense Debate plugin, I had to add my Intense Debate login credentials for the plugin to connect the two accounts and claim my blog.

I would be surprised if Intense Debate could indeed synchronize the commenter's username and password. This would require you to somehow claim your numerous login credentials across all the blogs you comment on. Instead, I imagine they are using the commenter's username and/or email address to identify the user's profile like Gravatar does.

Re: Breaking: Most Web Companies FAIL

FYI: I'm working on a new Web 3.0 collage that includes 50 semantic web startups.
Here's the new one: http://tomuse.com/tracking-...

Re: Top 10 Best Free Online Project Management Application Services

Great, thank John.
