Jack Nicholson's quote is taken out of context in terms of his views on whether women should be allowed a choice: in 1990 he told the Washington Post that while he was personally against abortion he still considered himself to be politically pro-choice:

“I’m pro-choice but against abortion because I’m an illegitimate child myself and it would be hypocritical to take any other position. I’d be dead. I wouldn’t exist."

I think there are some elements missing from this list of questions when it comes to information resources, such as "Which information sources are credible and have accountability as to accuracy? Is my learning for an academic purpose? If so, which sources are considered appropriate? Is there a primary source of the information I am seeking? If I'm using research, what was the sample size and how long ago was the research conducted and who funded the research? Are there other studies that are more current that contradict the findings?" etc. Working at a university has made me realise that students need information literacy skills first - then these sorts of guiding, self-directed learning questions.

Speaking as someone who is timid of dogs - please keep your dogs on a lead unless you're in a dog park or at a dog beach. I have had several experiences on public walking trails that are clearly marked with "Keep dogs on lead" signs where unleashed dogs are doing their thing and have run at me. Not fair.

One thing I'd add is that educators need to ensure their assessments are authentic and are transparent about the value proposition involved in the learning tasks. If all students are doing is writing essays or being asked to participate in discussion forums, they are less likely to connect with a task. In the course of 20 years in communications- and education- related fields, never once have I been asked to write an essay. I remember hearing students talking on a train about their assessments a few years ago. One was talking about the industry-connected instruction and project he was getting to work on and what a portfolio piece it was going to be and how much he was learning. The other student sighed and said "I've got another frigging essay to write. THAT will be useful in a job search - NOT."

There are dozens if not hundreds of reasons why this could be so - until you analyse this from a scientific perspective there is no way you can create a case for causation!

I'm 50 years old, have never wanted kids - except for a brief time when my hubby and I were first together - and neither my husband nor I regret the decision. My entire life up until recently I was told by older women I would change my mind and women my age told me I was selfish, a baby/child hater, was denying my husband his right to be a father and/or I was immature. When I was religious and cared about God, religious people told me that God would be disappointed in me. The pressure is HUGE to have kids. When I went through menopause early - I celebrated.

I understand this. She wanted to go before she lost her dignity. Her life is ultimately her own. I think if I were faced with that sort of deterioration and loss of independence and health, I might do the same.
