I agree with Mike's comment that B2B companies have a bigger up side when it comes to social media. We have seen a thirst for information on our blog and have researched many successful case studies outside of the traditional B2B tech space.

We need thought leadership in the B2B social media space to help companies understand online metrics and teach them how social media can be connected to the sales funnel. This will allow for better ROI measurement and also optimization of budget in a tough economy. Even the recent Facebook privacy changes and Google's real-time search will have major impacts on social CRM and inbound marketing respectively for B2B.

Thanks for sharing your insights on this issue Brian.

Kipp Bodnar
http://SocialMediaB2B.com

Re: Social Media Smarts Comes To Nashville

This is going to be a great event! It is more about us nerds trying to out do each other. That being said, I completely agree that we need less laptops and cell phones at conferences.

Re: Reading Through The Statistics On Social Media

Jason,

You make some good points, but I would argue that your original assumption is off. I don't think that online social networks has every really been seen as a replacement to face-to-face communication. Instead it is a better way to manage relationships when face-to-face communication isn't an option. To catch up with people you know well in person (Facebook), discover new friends (Twitter) etc.

You and I haven't seen each other in several months, but it doesn't really feel like it because we have the web. We live in a world in which constant face-to-face conversations aren't a reality so we have had to innovate and use the web to find ways to stay connected when face-to-face isn't an option.

Re: Mid-Year 2009 Predictions for the Future of Social Media

1. Remind Facebook and Twitter are different platforms, that are used for different things. Facebook is for people already you know and Twitter is discovering new people and information. They can easily live together and grow together, especially if you second prediction is correct.

2. Google Wave - The big "if" in the room is adoption. Yes as a platform Wave is a game changer, but it is probably 2-3 years away from an adoption and development standpoint. The point no one seems to be addressing with Wave is that it can help scale the social web. It can make niches more manageable and promote the growth a 2nd and 3rd tier networks and services.

Regardless, great job stirring it up as always Jim.

Re: FriendFeed Co-Founder: Facebook Acquisition Talks Began in 2007

Thanks for the details Ben!

Re: George Did a Great Job

I support George, he did the right thing.
