I was 8 years old when I first visited NYC—71 years ago. My dad, a career soldier, had been stationed in England, and my mom, two younger brothers, sister, and me were heading there on a ship departing from NYC. While in the city, I was tasked with holding a leash attached to a harness my 2-year-old brother wore. Looking back, I’m not sure if it was to stop him from running off or to keep him from being snatched. NYC felt rough back then and, in my view, has only gotten worse—reflected by voters choosing figures like this communist (AT BEST) Mamdani. I used to live in Miami but haven’t been able to handle the hectic drive down there for decades. Now, I’m settled north of Old Town in Dixie County, Florida.

I left Blogger in 2004 after being there 2-3 years (??). People were complaining that they were being locked out for political Conservative posts. Moved that blog to WordPress and still have it—tho no new posts since 2023.

Started a Linux WP blog in 2019. Had more visitors and views in three years than all the blogs I ever ran combined. No comment section—just word of mouth and Google searches. Late in the third year I started running some political posts, and by start of the fourth year my views had dropped to a ~~trickle~~ drop. Linux posts that had been on Google's front page were no longer there.

Google couldn't lock that small Linux blog but they certainly managed to stop the views even on the Linux posts. Have been self-hosting a mainly political blog at Hostinger since then...few views on my political posts, but the Tech & Linux OS sections get most all of the views—with searches mainly from Yandex and DuckDuck. Fooey on Google... 🙂
