Those songs are pretty recognizable and not too complicated. A decent primer, I suppose, for the total neophyte.

Oh, man, RUST IN PEACE. IN FULL. Holy fuck, I'm excited! I hope to go, too!

Well, I also have Slayer on my iPod...and maybe Job For A Cowboy...I forget...but no Village People. And I wasn't arguing against the thrash metal adopting pop ideals. Sometimes it works well, and Megadeth has done it more consistently than any other band, I think. But there's simply too much evidence that the farther a metal band strays from the meat and potatoes, so to speak, the sloppier and less enjoyable they get. At least, that's what experience has shown me. Look at Metallica: Load, ReLoad and St. Anger...a trinity of albums ranging from "OK, guys, that was different, but alright!" to "crimes against humanity."

I know everyone seems to enjoy Endgame, but I just can't get into it. I don't understand it. In fact, the only song I'm enthusiastic about is "Head Crusher!" I've argued about its merits with my friend Chris many times. To quote Mugatu: "I FEEL LIKE I'M TAKING CRAZY PILLS"

Re: http://hoarr.tumblr.com/post/362342335

I am truly APPALLED by this list's overwhelmingly poppy nature. Alright, not really appalled, not even irked. I just wanted to comment.

Sure, these songs are all enjoyable - with the exception of "Crush 'Em"...christ, Risk was a total misfire - but most are generally boiled down a bit from the Dave standard, made slicker and easier to process for a greater radio audience. I could name several Megadeth tracks that are better (according to me, anyway), thrashier and more indicative of their overall sound:

1) The entirety of Rust In Peace. Kudos to you, Hoarr, for including "Hangar 18" and "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due"...fan favorites and classic thrash anthems for a good reason!...but what about "Five Magics" or "Take No Prisoners" or the legendary "Tornado of Souls?" You really can't go wrong with this entire album. Every track is golden. Make sure to get the original recording, though. The remasters, though a little cleaner w/r/t instrumentation, have redone vocals, and the energy and sound unfortunately suffer.

2) The entirety of...

Well, let me make this shorter. ALBUMWISE: Buy and play the shit out of Rust In Peace and Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?, give Countdown to Extinction, Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings some good spins and see if you like the slightly poppier direction, avoid Risk and The World Needs a Hero like the plague and cherry-pick from Killing is My Business... and So Far, So Good...So What! (the former, being a debut album, is a little rough, and the latter is all over the place in terms of quality). As for the newer stuff (The System Has Failed and onward), well, consensus has yet to be reached, but I certainly enjoy it! Played a lot of United Abominations when it came out, that's for sure!

My quick list of fine, fine songs off the top of my head:

"Architecture of Aggression"
"Bad Omen"
"Go To Hell"
"Reckoning Day"
"The Disintegrators"
"She-Wolf"
"Kick The Chair"
"Something That I'm Not"
"Washington Is Next!"
"Blessed Are The Dead"

Re: My Philosophy, As Articulated by AV Club Writers

You should be ashamed.

Re: http://hoarr.tumblr.com/post/187367895

Ah. I had World Tour for a time, and I did play bass on several occasions, even tried the career at a point. I always felt the change was just a lazy addition of yet another type of note to hit, which needlessly complicated an already-solid formula. Also, it didn't help that it was a purple horizontal bar. Hard to differentiate at times from the background and the other visual goings-on.

Re: 5 Rockin’ Tweaks in Guitar Hero 5

@Sarkazein

"Now if only Rock Band would add open string bass and strummed chords."

Honestly, I hope they never do this.
