Don't miss Daniel Goode and his many bird pieces -- he is one of the great birdsong contemporaries since Messiaen. And there's my own "LowBirds" (flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, piano) and "HighBirds (Prime)" (two electric guitars & playback), both birdsong-based but not sounding like birdsongs. Scores available with performance recording of "LowBirds" at http://maltedmedia.com/peop... Other composers that come to mind are Hugh LeCaine, Mary Lee Roberts, Wendy Mae Chambers (those birds on tape with harpsichords), and Peter Flint.
