the advice was to get a manicure, because when you do, they take off all of the gross skin stuff, and it's harder to pick at your fingers. It does work, and I've done it many times before, but it's no use... I always find a way to turn my beautifully manicured fingers into an ugly, red mess once again. Hope this helps you, though! I don't know if you'll even have time to read this or find it interesting, but I just had to share.. :

A few years ago I commented on your blog, asking you for a cure to finger-picking/biting, which is one of my bad habits, along with biting the inside of my mouth and my tongue to shreds. You gave me a pretty good solution, which has helped a little bit, but I've given up. There's nothing left to try. We should start 'finger-picker's anonymous' for people like me. ANYWAY, someone my mother knows picked her finger, and she works at an elementary school (I work at a kindergarten, so this really freaked me out), and because she picked her finger at the elementary school (with all of the germ-y Kinder around), she got some sort of staph infection or something, and now they have to amputate her finger! And now I'm afraid that this will happen to me (even though it probably won't). Music is my passion, and the thought of not having a tenth finger to play my guitar, piano, or saxaphone made me panic. I've pledged to stop finger-picking again, but it's going nowhere. I don't even notice that I do it anymore, but when I do notice, I try to stop.

That story just reminded me of you, so I thought I'd share.

Every time Bad Habit comes onto my ipod, I kind of stop and scold myself for not having the self control to stop. And then I laugh to myself because it's such an absurd situation.

If you've found a way to stop between the last time you gave me advice and now, I'd really appreciate it.
If not, and you still pick, try to stop! We don't want a nine-fingered Amanda Palmer! Though we would all love you just as much as we do with ten :P.

It's alright about the oasis thing, though I wish that they would play it over there, and over here, jesus. No one understands. However, my friend does an unbelievable impersonation of Sarah Palin, and was actually Sarah Palin for Halloween. We play music together all the time, and next week we're playing a show, and we have a grand oasis/palin inspired plan.

She's going to dress up as Sarah Palin (did I mention that she looks like her too?!) and sing a song that we wrote together, as Sarah Palin. It's a ridiculous song that is actually very odd because my friend is extremely conservative, and likes Sarah Palin, while I'm TOTALLY liberal and I'm not too fond of her. So the song is a wonderful mix of mocking Palin and appreciating her.

Anyway, she'll sing this ridiculous song as Sarah Palin, and then when she's done, I'm going to cover oasis with a bunch of friends that'll run up from the audience to sing the backup part, and we're going to dedicate the song to her, as you did. Hopefully, forcing our fake Sarah Palin out the door and down the street or something.

Who knows how the audience will react, this being red New Hampshire and all.
THOUGH WE WERE BLUE FOR THIS ELECTION! :)

I have no idea why I just shared that, but it's two in the morning, and I don't even know why I'm still awake!

OH AMANDA, I ALMOST FORGOT!
when you went to the newbury comics show/signing thingy in boston,
you mentioned something about a kickass halloween party somewhere in the area.
is this actually happening? because i'm going to the rocky horror picture show on halloween in harvard square, and if you had a show before that, it'd make it the best halloween EVER.

i live right next to the Robert Frost Farm, his old house, in New Hampshire.
come have a looksee some time! it's actually pretty cool.
there's all of these nature trails in the woods, and every time two roads diverge, i go down them and I wonder which spot gave him the idea for the poem about 'the road less traveled'.
so stop by some time, and we'll go on a field trip!

I've contributed over 400 hours to the New Hampshire Obama Campaign, and quite a bit of money from tons of small donations. (Though I'm not yet old enough to vote, I understand the importance of electing a good solid president to help our country out. Everyone and Anyone can make a difference.) I plan to take the day off on Nov. 4th, and drive the elderly people in my town to the polls to vote because they couldn't get there otherwise. keep spreading the word, and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go to vote on election day, no matter how long the freaking line is..

dude, meah. i totally agree. I've worked hundreds and hundreds of hours on the Obama campaign ever since he's announced that he was running for president, and I'm missing the election by literally a matter of a few months. So everyone that can vote PLEASE do. It's so important, especially now with all of this shit that's going on. Voting is a right but it's also an unbelievable PRIVILEDGE. If you're not going to vote, move to a country where the people can't, and see how you like it. PLEASE REGISTER.

I came to your instore in boston. fantastic, as usual.
I've moved around from house to house a lot in my life, and each time it's hard to say goodbye to a house that you've had so many great memories in, and maybe even some not-so-great ones. I even cried a few months ago when my mom sold the car that she had had since I was two years old. It's so weird how we can get attached to material things like this, and sometimes it kind of scares me. It's always weird to drive by your old house and see someone else's car in front of it, with different lawn decorations, a different swing set, etc. Everything is eventually all ok though. And getting to decorate a new house is always somewhat exciting..
I don't really know where I was going with that.. just felt like sharing.
good luck with everything to come, and I love your new song.
