I've been trying to resolve a ridiculous IRS snafu for years (they mangled the spelling of my last name horribly, the equivalent of "Smoph" for "Smith").

They're tremendously understaffed and their database systems are ancient. I've definitely been on hold for an hour-plus. That said, when you do get someone on the phone, they're always pleasant and professional.

Re: Week in Review (Aug 5 – Aug 11)

I second that emotion. My own denomination campaigns vigorously for separation of church and state. For myself, I am part of the contingent within my denomination that campaigns for churches to be as subject to taxes as any other non-profit voluntary association.

Re: Week in Review (July 29 – Aug 4)

What a friend you have in Jesus! ;)

Re: Week in Review (July 29 – Aug 4)

There isn't a conflict for us. I do my thing and he does his thing. We chose not to have children (for other reasons) and it pretty much never comes up; he's usually doing Sudoku while I'm praying in the evening, and he has plenty to occupy him on Sunday mornings without me.

Our marriage is great, and the "unequally yoked" business doesn't bother me a bit. My denomination isn't a Biblical-literalist one, and I think Second Corinthians is probably spurious anyway.

On edit: I am bad at Bible tonight; "unequally yoked" is indeed in Second Corinthians, but that's generally accepted as likely authentic. I was thinking of Second Thessalonians, which many scholars believe is spurious. So I guess I default to "Paul was fallible" on that one. I think being married to my husband has made me a better person in all respects, including as a Christian, because my husband's integrity, generosity, and compassion inspire me greatly.

Re: Week in Review (July 29 – Aug 4)

A large survey, conducted by a faith-based research organization, found that the group of people who identified as evangelical Protestants is the group with the highest divorce rate (in the US).

Re: Week in Review (July 29 – Aug 4)

I'm pretty engaged with my own Christian practice; my husband is fervently anti-religious (he was raised Reform Jewish).
