Beyond cutting grass, I had no idea what I was doing and the business piddled out. It just piddled out, Kay! Then I went to business school and learned everything I should have done.

Get this! 43% of teens perform a freelance job by the age of 14. 69% of high schoolers want to start a business. But 90% rate their entrepreneurial knowledge at poor or fair at most. Entrepreneurship is something they want, but they don’t know how.

So I’m going to offer all the resources and tools that young entrepreneurs will need to start, run, and build their businesses. I started with a blog. Then we interviewed the world’s top young entrepreneurs and wrote a book. Now we’re getting out and speaking.

I have a few more things in the works, Kay, but I'm curious to know what advice Seth Godin has for me. If I win one of your four copies, you can bet that I will run through it the day that it arrives.

Re: 18 Affordable software solutions to empower your startup team

I just started using RescueTime. It tracks how long you spend on websites and tasks, then sends you regular reports. Its basic offering is free but you can upgrade to monitor your team. Seems to work really well and it's by a venture-backed startup.

Re: http://www.thestartupstudent.com/post/1300028299

Hey Zach! As a business, your primary responsibility is to produce things that people what they want. Do you think accepting ideas from outside of your company will make your employees feel less valuable?

I think it's a lot harder to get a loyal customer than a loyal employee... Maybe it's just me being shortsighted.

Re: What’s the deal with crowdsourced labor?

I was wondering what crowdsourcing was. They're not proactively networking with decision makers in their communities.
2. They have the same degree that every other person in their shoes has and they're not doing anything to improve their knowledge or skill set. Why would an employer ever want to hire someone who is similar to everyone else?! You have to be crazy to think the standard business degree is good enough to get the job you want.

Figure out how to solve problems. Go to the employers that have those problems. Show them what you know and how it will benefit them. Then they have to be crazy not to hire you.

...a little on the ranty side ;).

Re: How Gen Y Needs to Redefine Success and Change the World

Cool, Matt! When I tell people about our book, the first thing they want to hear is how much money these kids are making. So, I tell them... But I wish their first question was, "How are they changing the world?" because that's what it's about. Gen Y couldn't care less about money. Mark Zuckerberg lives in a relatively small house, but everyone on Google wants to know how much he's worth.

Just like you, I'm here to change the world. I'll settle for nothing less.

P.S. Everyone thinks they can write and most of them can write fairly well. But there's a huge difference between a good writer and a great writer. And great writers need to realize how important their skills are to the internet. Fortunately, my partner is one of those great writers.

I second the Copyblogger suggestion.

Re: If "Life" were a Class in High School

Loved it, Michael! Very few people are as happy as they want to be. Yet, most of us just complain about it. It's time we figure out what we want, how to get it, and then do it. Love the contest! So far this year, I'm still figuring out this blogging stuff. The number one thing I've learned is that blogs don't make money, businesses make money and businesses sell products and services. With that said, here is what I am doing.

What will you do in the next 3 months?
I'll be releasing two free courses to build my lists, one later this week and the other in about a month. I'll be re-launching my first product in the middle of May and I'll be publishing my landmark product at the end of May.

What are you doing differently to really step up your game?
Focusing on product development, product launch and affiliate relationships.

How are you actively making 2010 an absolutely killer year for your life as a blogger?
In addition to the previous plans, I have two more products in the works that will be available by the end of the year.

But before I can do all of the things I want, I have to graduate from Colorado State. I would love to have a copy of Gary's book!

Re: Return From Underground Seminar

Hey David! I'm one of the young entrepreneurs who was at the event. It was nice to meet you and sorry we didn't get to chat more. They kept us busy the whole time.

You're absolutely right, there is going to be a gigantic shift in internet marketing over the next year. Red text and yellow highlighting is going to stop working. And, I second that whole concept of people saying, "I can't afford to learn how to make money on the internet."

Nicely put!

Re: VIDEO INTERVIEW: Best-Selling Author Bob Burg Reveals Why Go-Givers Sell More

I loved the interview, Bradley! I'm fully expecting to make 2010 "frickin ROCK"!

I'm just getting started in this blogging arena and I know I haven't realized the full-potential of the Internet. It's exciting.

I wish I could make it to your webinar but I have a prior engagement this evening.

Re: How to Systematize Your Personal Branding Using Social Media

Hey Brenton! My favorite part of this article is your advice with Facebook. You're right! I would like to think that my "real-life" friends would be interested in what I'm doing with my blog. I'm still hesitant but I'm getting better. Bradley does an amazing job utilizing his Facebook account. Every time he updates his status, people flock to be the first one to notice.

And this is all especially important now that Facebook lets you add friends from your email address book. It's a game changer!

Re: The Most Powerful Word in an Entrepreneur’s Life

Hey Bradley! My inability to stay on task is one of the biggest problems I have as an entrepreneur. And it seems like it's a fairly common problem.

One of the things I started using recently is a to-do list website, TeuxDeux.com. I'm cautious to share these things but it has helped a lot! It's free and simple to use. You add things to one day. If you don't complete them, they transfer to the next day.

I always keep it open as one of my tabs and when I remember to do something, I add it to the list and carry on with what I was already doing.

I know, this sounds like a sales pitch but it's really not. I use it. It helps me. And others can benefit from using it as well.

Nice article!

Re: How to Get Entrepreneurs to Talk Their Faces Off

Hey Adam!

Yeah, it amazes me that the parrot works.
