Would you eat your cat? How about puppy meatloaf? The rabbit killed to make this dish is EXACTLY the same as mine. Rabbits are the third most common pets in America. They are affectionate, loyal, smart, use litterboxes, and are cleaner than cats. We have a "social contract" in America NOT to eat cats and dogs. Why should rabbits be treated any differently? So, while you are enjoying that rabbit meatloaf, picture it made out of your cat, Fluffy.

Bravo! Many kudos! *however, the wording on the certificate should read "attendees", not "attendants". Theatre attendants are persons who attend to those at the theatre, ie: ushers, etc.
But thank you, thank you, thank you on behalf of all of us who have to put up with theatre-goers who are intolerably annoying. I was at the theatre recently when an older woman in back of me talked loudly the entire play. When I shushed her, she talked even louder than then pinched me! I should have had the old bat arrested for assault.

Lars, they used to have an ICU, a great Rehab unit and maternity wards; I have a lot of friends who were born there! I'm thrilled, but justs wish that they would bring back the ICU.

I think Scouting is great for kids. I was a Girl Scout, as it happens. (and we met at Calvery Lutheran.)

Just went to a climber's party/reunion....all of these guys were in Boy Scouts, then Explorer Search and Rescue, then Mountain Rescue. About half of them ended up climbing Everest. I'd say that the skills they learned in Boy Scouts paid off.

Half the pubs in London have been bought up by French chefs; that stereotype (at least in Kensington) are old history. "The Sun in Splendour" was one that was featured in Gourmet Magazine.

I love the old Guiness ads: "Guiness, it's good for you!" "Guiness, a loaf of bread in every bottle!" etc.

The truly odd thing about the "Kan I axe you a Kweschun?" girl is that I see her EVERY DAY and EVERY SINGLE DAY I tell her that I am NEVER going to give her money....and she seems not to actually recognize me from one day to the next- heck, from one hour to the next. Over the last 2 years or so I have gone from being polite to ...not so much . I think she's got more than one screw loose. I just wish we could get those animals away from her; that cat-in-a-basket has got to be terrified 24/7. Ergo I have Animal Control's number in my cel phone.

"Twice in A Lifetime" was filmed in Ballard (1985) with Ann Maragaret and Gene Hackman. " ...mainly on Phinnery Ridge and the Locks. "A Slender Thread" with Sidney Poitiier , Ann Bancroft and Telly Salvalas was filmed at Shilshole...and our street. Art Olsen's parent's house was used as the house in the film; all of us kids were extras. (1965.)

I can't remember the name of the movie filmed at James Monroe...anyone? Bueller?

From the Seattle Times, below. Honestly, people, keep in mind that you aren't at the top of the food chain...you're in the middle. Cougars aren't afraid of people...they have been known to stalk humans. If there was a Benglas tiger running around Discovery Park, I'll bet these folks would say the same thing.

"It's possible there could be a cougar around. There was one before," she said. "But closing the park is really overreacting."Another neighbor, who has lived across the street from the park since 1992, said she's skeptical of the reports.

"Oh, for cryin' out loud," she said. "I'm in that park every morning at quarter to seven and I've never seen a cougar."

"We saw a lot of helicopter activity, that's all," said DeLuca. "I disagree with closing it. I'd think a cougar would be afraid of people and would find some hiding place."

Oh, yeah, I'll ask the Geeky Swedes for your email address, so the representatives of Old Dog Haven, PAWS, Purebred Dog Rescue and German Shepherd Search dogs who were there, will know exactly who to thank for not doing the event next year. Yeah, your sarcasm is heartwarming. Actually, I spent $100 of myown money, donated some of the prizes, and spent 3 weeks of my time for the dog owners of Ballard, for what? You're right, I got nothing in return. Except, apparently, getting kicked in the teeth.

And I won't be doing it again, thanks. We were going to; but you've sealed the deal. Hey, all the dog owners can thank you! It's the new spirit of Ballard!

I do realize that virtually everyone who posts on this forum is from somewhere else. .most people who grew up here mainly don't care what newcomers think about much.

Plus, virtually every single person who came to the Dog Day was a newcomer. How do I know? Because not one of them thanked me at the event. Not one. Not one person offered to get the volunteers a cup of coffee...and if they'd grown up in Seattle, they'd have nicer manners.

Ergo, you can't be from here, either.

Shouldn't you be in bed? Doesn't school start soon? Does your mom know you're up this late?

I didn't say firefighters should be dispatched to take care of the cougar! I said that they may have better things to do.

You have to wonder if this is some sort of stunt. After all, people don't usually jump off bridges in tandem to commit suicide, do they?

Joolz ; I take it that you are up late on a school night. Either that , or you are one of the many jerks who moved here from some hellhole back East, bought an overpriced condo, eat sushi because it's "exotic", and wonder why all the locals never invite you over, and think that they are all "unfriendly."

BTW, if you attended the Dog Day, you can pay me for/return any prize you may have received. That's 3 weeks of my life I'll never get back, and for the likes of people like you, it would seem.

Possibly...considering it's was a nice afternoon. The height of the bridge is less than the height of an Olympic diving board....which should not usually endanger life and limb.

I agree horseknuckle...15 feet isn't likely to kill you. I find this hard to believe it was a "suicide attempt." More like an attention-getting gesture.

Even jumping off the Aurora bridge is no guarantee. (my sis and her rowing partner were once rowing under the Aurora bridge for some sort of film...heard a loud splash..the launch with the film crew called 911 and fished him out. He could've killed the two in the shell! So, they went to work...and the other woman worked at Harborview as a radiologist. Yep, her first client was the jumper. His blood-alcohol was so high it was a miracle he could get a leg over the rail. End of story- he broke about everything possible, but lived.)

Damn inconvenient to the rest of the world, I say. And you're right...emergency crews have better things to do, and the cougar in Discovery Park is an actual threat to human life.

Perhaps someone can put up a little website with pictures of the miscreants. After all, it is not actually aa violation of anyone's privacy IF they are in public. (paparazzi. I rest my case.) Public shame has always been an effective deterrent to bad behavior.

Good for whomever, I say. Everytime I walk The Naughtiest Dog in Ballard I end up picking up someone else's dog's poo as well. Sheer negligence.
