If there's one thing that I hate seeing, it's that arcade games are at the mercy of children who don't know better than to just screw around with the controls and do things that would potentially harm the machine itself. It also doesn't help that they can be victims of accidental griefing, but hey, they're children, and like you gave in your example, some parents could see this and be generous enough to give you another go.

"On a multiplayer machine (mainly gun games like The House of the Dead and the aforementioned RS), ask before you join in." Sadly, the only games that you can prevent others from joining in your game is the Time Crisis series (at least from 2 to 4). Speaking of which, I've noticed that there are a lot of people that don't get the sense that they have more stages than they actually played, like for some instances at MGL, I've literally seen people play one stage of DDR X and just leave, not knowing that they had 2 more stages to play. Some people just flat-out abandon the game for whatever reason, and I've seen that a few times at MGL where Razing Storm and Time Crisis 3 would just be left running in-game with no players.

"If you’re working at the arcade, DO NOT troll the players." There is a term that describes what you call "trolls" and how they're "trolling" you, and you might have heard the term before considering you're also a prominent Minecraft player. These people are "griefers" and are "griefing" you, much like how a Minecraft griefer would grief multiplayer worlds by messing up random stuff and overall making other players miserable. The definition of the term isn't any different from an arcade griefer as well, especially when these people do it deliberately (like the aforementioned MGL employee). Hypothetical examples of worse griefing than you've mention would be, for instance, reaching out while someone's playing a game and just mashing random buttons against the player's will until they screw up. Of course, a Minecraft griefer is much more discreet (if done properly, but that's not to say that I encourage griefing on Minecraft), and an arcade griefer would be much easier to bust.

"In general, just don’t troll other players." lol Crazed (before I actually knew him) saying "YOU SHOULD PLAY RANDOMIZER" when T1 was still at MGL.

"Observe card/coin lines." I try my best with this one, and it's only good etiquette that players actually move the line accordingly. I personally think that the Philippine's idea for a coin line (lol memorize what credit you are in the many credits in the machine) is a bit far-fetched, but hey, this is a completely different country we're talking about, and as you mention in your post, other countries and regions could have different rules of etiquette. (Fun anecdote: when I was in the Philippines in 2004, all of the DrumMania/Percussion Freaks players always played with auto-bass on. Even with the rather hard songs, most players would use auto-bass no matter what lol)

"[I]f you feel someone is intruding on your experience (i.e. jumping in without permission, trolling, their kids, etc.), calm down, take a few steps back." Someone accidentally hit me with an ice hockey puck when I was about to leave MGL. I just felt a light thud, and once I noticed what it was, I kindly threw the puck back in play and said "no worries" to the kid that accidentally the puck at me. There was also a time when someone joined in beside me on Razing Storm. As much as I like score attacking, if someone joins in at the time, I just immediately cancel out my score attack and just play for shits and giggles until the next play. After all, ESPECIALLY during Arcade Mania, you can always try again to score attack. It's not like players are going to intrude all the time when you're trying to do your score attacking.

If someone intrudes on my experience, I just let it be for now, and if it really bothers me, I just wait until the end of my run and politely tell them what wrong they did.

With all this being said, I think this is a really good post on arcade etiquette, and I sure had a lot of things to say about the topic, seeing that I'm an aspiring arcade goer myself...if only because I wasn't able to experience arcades to its fullest and most enjoyable potential (because, you know, I was a kid at one point (wink)).

That's the way to go about things. Just...play. Don't give two shits about what other people think about your abilities in...hell, anything, really. Just do what you do, and if you improve, congratulate yourself and move on.

So I don't get 2,600 coins on stage 1 on Guwange. So what?
So my skill level in Technika can't possibly rival that of DJ NOTHING. So what?
So I can't pass anything above a 7 on IIDX. SO. FUCKING. WHAT.

Just have fun with what you're doing and progress at your own pace.

I can picture this as the final level of a shmup where you have to dodge really difficult patterns that are on sync with this song...then you reach this sequence and realize you have no other choice but to be killed by the boss, granting yourself the bad end. Oh, and Giygas-like background during your fight.
