Dave Frick alludes to a problem for hobbyists: cost. I doubt many hobbyists can justify a $1000 fume extractor and a $250 enclosure on top of the cost of their printer, much less installing vents in their house.

Instead, hobbyists might focus on limiting exposure, lower nozzle temperatures, nozzle size, etc. This means we need to close that huge gap in research between 1 hour and 40 hours, as this is really what hobbyists need to know. I'm looking forward to seeing more research findings in the future

Also, regarding this part:

"[A]s the printing process goes on, VOC emissions generally fall to low levels after around five minutes. [...] VOCs bind readily to particles, which helps drive down VOC levels."

... It's important to realize that if you're using a HEPA filter, those VOC's might not have anything to bind to and remain in the environment.

Thanks again.

Re: HelpDocs - Firmware upgrade and flashing

For the Mk3 on Linux, where do I find the firmware updater? Anyone that's ever *joined* a project rather than *started* one knows how annoying it is to not even be able to use a debugger. To many people, reputation is very closely related to popularity, whereas contribution is something completely separate. Simply being able to see how an editor has contributed to a specific topic can be very useful. Also, some kind of executive veto could be useful for people trying to edit topics they were personally a part of (like Jaron).

Re: Cyborgs. I think the only way we think that is because in the past, people primarily got new music from industry, and not from more artist-centric sources like Pandora, Last.fm, or even Apple's iTunes Music Store. I think as more and more services like this develop, the industry will deteriorate until music rises to the top more organically. We're already seeing this with bands like Arcade Fire.

As far as my argument on free information hindering innovation, I think a good way to ensure and even improve innovation is by giving artists access to tools of distribution.

Re: Spirit

Good news! We're going to have a feature-rich website (with fullscreen maps) to view and manage content published from the mobile applications. The site will contain pages for every user, a public timeline, and popular/featured content. Users will be able to login (using Twitter, Facebook Connect, or Placethings), manage their content (video, images, audio, and text), add friends, and explore using the website or a mobile app.

We've also got a whole bunch of ideas for more specialized types of content, but we haven't decided on which ones to focus on. Recently we've been tossing around ideas for augmented reality games with our colleagues of the EMAC program at UTD.

We've built the system to be open, so developers will be able to use our API to build their own apps.

Re: New sidewalks, curbs, etc. - StimulusWatch.org

Which sidewalks and curbs?

Re: Energy efficency & conservation - StimulusWatch.org

Agreed.
