The issue of hard vs. softscape is irrelevant to the sorry history of PS. Instead, and given the social malaise which has always emerged, there has remained the acute need for a design with sufficient magic, heart and soul - so as to propel a sense of wonder, a must see environment so special that the citizenry would desire to attend and experience again and again throughout the decades of the future. Neutralize the trend towards malaise.

We need a municipal ordinance which would outlaw the involvement of any architect or landscape architect in any future redesign of Pershing Square! Let artists, artistry and horticultural devotees take care of the place. Amen.

This respondent watched two disturbing YouTube videos last night. One regards the deepening decline in the freight/trucking sector, and the other is an analysis of the naion's housing sector, particularly new housing construction. On both counts, the prediction is that six months from now (+/- five months before the fall election), the economy will have sunk into a bad recession. Specifically, the housing analyst claims that a coming housing collapse will b MORE SERVERE than that of 2008/2009.

If these predictions prove out, I feel that next year's congressional election will be similar to that of November 1964. Trump would need for Putin to invade Poland or otherwise cause a false flag event of some nature in or near Venezuela so as to save the Republicans. OTOH, if he has to have another MRI at Walter Reed before June, he may be gone from D.C. by then.
