Really?! Most of your arguments are ridiculous, particularly the ones about the last draft. A. You can't judge draft picks this early. B. Not all of the picks attained in trades have even been made. C. If you're using Cardale Jones in your argument, you lose credibility immediately.

We knew this team wouldn't be good and any reasonable person would agree this team has had extremely bad luck with injuries, beyond the norm (like losing their kicker the Friday before a game, which they would have won with one more made FG). Have some mistakes been made? Sure, but show me any team/coaches in the league that have made zero mistakes.

Re: Membership-based Networking Groups: Worth The Money?

Ron,

Thanks for commenting and sorry to take so long to respond.

Yeah, I've not really even considered so much whether it's a for-profit organization or not, but whether there's enough value there for me to want to join. I think that if the value is there for you, it doesn't really matter whether it's for-profit or non-profit. The question is how does the organization stack up versus your other options?

Thanks again,

Joe

Re: Who Else Wants a GO! I've always felt that if I'm making an impact, then it's a worthwhile job or task. The higher the impact, the higher the priority. Also, I was 10 years old when I watched the Miracle On Ice, and watching that event made me a fan of hockey. They may have recruited some more youngsters to follow hockey from these Olympics.

Also, on a side note, I found out last week that there is actually a Curling Club in Austin, Texas, of all places. We automatically put them on a pedestal if they are successful and assume that success on the field translates to their personal lives. I also think it's generally one of the most worthless questions to ask. Nobody will give you a truly honest or useful answer. Always looking for more music info.

I'm not sure if it's so much artists looking to put out their best work as it is trying to make a buck. Like you said, attention spans are short and if you can put out a hot single and sell some concert tickets, you're making more money with less effort than putting together a whole cohesive collection of quality music. There's no guarantee people will care enough to buy and the record companies keep most of the money anyway.

Thanks for commenting!

Re: Are “Albums” Becoming a Thing of the Past?

Maybe "cohesive collections of songs" would be a better term? I'm not necessarily tied to a physical media, like CD's. What I do like is the collection of songs that actually fit together in some way. The Internet and downloading of individual songs seems to be killing these collections, and, I think the creativeness of many artists. It's a different approach, I think, to try and write a hit single to get downloaded/played than it is to develop an "album" or collection of songs.

Re: Cleveland Sports Makes News for the Wrong Reasons

I actually look at that as a positive. Since I frequent RP's, my friends and I have had this conversation recently and we all agree that there is enough Asian food in the immediate area already. Someone suggested a Greek restaurant would be a great idea and I agree. At least something a little different. I agree on Terry's for Best Burger (Honorable Mention to Oakley Pub and Zips) and I too would like to see that old diner on Sycamore occupied again. York Street Cafe I've been to, but never eaten there; cool place. Many of the places you mentioned I still haven't been to, and a few I hadn't heard of, so thanks for the recommendations. Some other favorites of mine:

Favorite place to drink wine: Tino Vino. Nice, knowledgeable people. Casual atmosphere. Good variety of styles. Also, if you ever thought about making your own wine, consider a visit.

Favorite Bar: Mr. Pitiful's is very cool, but I prefer to stay closer to home and go to Oakley Pub (best combo of good food and bar) or R.P. McMurphy's (nice deck for summer, old-school bar inside early, live music on weekends). Hap's Irish Pub gets an honorable mention (old-school Irish Pub).

Favorite Restaurant: Grand Finale in Glendale (cool, old house; crepes are a specialty; also known for desserts and Sunday Brunch).

Favorite Thai: Bangkok Bistro in Hyde Park East (particularly for noodle dishes; other places better for sushi).

Re: NFL Says “No” to Players Tweeting During Games

I disagree. I don't think professional sports need to address this issue at all. As long as they aren't pulling their cell phones out on the field of play, who really cares? If the individual coaches and teams think it's too distracting, then let them police it and deal with their players in their own way. This isn't like using drugs to gain an advantage or driving drunk. This is Connecting with Fans in a new way. Why don't they ban in-game TV interviews? Because they're making money as a result of a better relationship with the TV networks. Maybe they should look at this as an opportunity to sell more tickets, merchandise, etc. to fans that feel more connected to the superstars of their sport because of this type of interaction. There it is. There's your money-making case for allowing tweeting during games. I expect them to retract their decision soon after reading this post. :)

Re: My Infinite Jest

Brad,

You should feel honored to be compared to MJ!

Life is definitely about dealing with insanity: yours, everyone else's and the random insane events that result!

Re: My Infinite Jest

I find it interesting that many creative types have "issues" of one sort or another (see Michael Jackson).
