It was knowledgable developers who deal with these issues every day that I gathered the information from. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't have anything against WordPress. I'm doing some work for a new client that includes defining what their company culture is.

I chuckled at the line, "...most companies make their employees go in a location and sit on their butts in a chair for X hours a day..."

I think some companies get to a certain size before they feel they need to define or even discover what their culture is. It's probably not a bad idea to define the culture early on and keep going back to it like a road map and adjusting it over time as needed.

Defining the culture helps to keep a company focussed. I'd bet if a lot more companies took the time to define their culture they might discover they are all over the place and confusing to outsiders.

Thanks again and all the best for your success in your second business location!

Re: http://joejoomla.com/sound-off/167-what-to-do-when-your-disqus-comments-link-to-the-wrong-url.html

Thank you very much for reporting the update and providing a link. To be a responsible website owner you must keep your CMS updated with the latest security patches and be on top of any suspicious activity on your site.

Developer's are missing a great opportunity for extra revenue if they don't offer this service to their clients. Even if they do not want to do it themselves they can partner with a company that specializes in website maintenance and service.

Re: The Intranet Should Be Your Most Productive Website

Hi Eoin,

When I get some time I'll put an example of it online with some generic articles and menu items.

Re: The Intranet Should Be Your Most Productive Website

Hi Mark,

Thank you for commenting on this blog post!

Your intranet project is one of the nicest looking among those that I have been involved in. It's not only good looking, which is really important, but you are empowering your employees with useful content and tools they are actually using on a regular basis. A lot of thought went into how provide this kind of functionality in an engaging fashion.

You made the following comment in your articles which are linked above:

A corporate intranet is the number one avenue for sharing information to all staff. Doesn’t it make sense to ensure that the experience they have on this vital platform is a positive one?

I urge everyone to head over to your articles on the project and check them out. I backup my Intranet offline to Amazon S3 server. You would be crazy not to do backups of your most important data.

JCE Editor and Mediabox - Although I usually work with the editor turned off in my Joomla websites, there’s functionality that JCE Editor and Mediabox gives me that I really like. I used JCE functionality for getting properly non sef URLs as links and for photo pop up modals.

LOGman - This is an interesting one. I started using this on a lot of my sites and I like the way it displays a handy list of recently used items in the control panel when you login. For client sites I find LOGman very helpful to determine who is doing what on a site.

Joomla can do so much right out of the box. A lot of times an extension will simply be to make a function that is inherent in Joomla simpler to use. When I first started with Joomla I was an extensions junkie as well, I installed everything I thought was cool. Then came the first major migration and it wasn’t fun to migrate all those extensions, some of which were no longer available for the new version.

I believe that if you are a power user of a tool, and you really know how to use it, you’ll be more effective than having something with a lot of capabilities that’s too complex with a steep learning curve to work with. I ran into this a couple of years back when I tried using a fancy Content Construction Kit (CCK) and found out that doing simple changes was no longer simple. Now that Joomla has Fields I’m just using them with layout overrides. Joomla just keeps getting better and better all the time!

The only other thing I did with my intranet site is to make it look really nice. I am looking at this several times a day. I modified the Protostar template to look like the Wired magazine website. :-)

Tell me about your 'must have' extensions Rod.

Re: The Intranet Should Be Your Most Productive Website

I'm totally with you on this. I would LOVE to be able to have my iCal embedded into my site, and also view specifically tagged emails from within Joomla. Right now the only reason I am keeping Evernote is to use for tagging specific important emails and bringing them into client folders.

The point that you make, "Although some are not so amazing..." is so true! We really need to review the workflow regularly and do some housekeeping, clear stuff out and keep things simple.

Re: http://joejoomla.com/sound-off/167-what-to-do-when-your-disqus-comments-link-to-the-wrong-url.html

Hi Juan,

Make sure that you have the initial set up done properly for subdomains. They are indeed one of the more successful open source technology businesses stories. Robert is well known in the Joomla Community and it's always a good idea to go and hear what he has to say at the Joomla events he speaks in. A real nugget shared right at the beginning of this interview is his statement, "...find something that will make your business unique". I think a lot of new companies struggle in this area. They get lost in a big pot of 'me toos' which reduce their product offering to a commodity in the eyes of customers. The good clients are looking for great companies to work with. I'm glad that there are open source companies that stand out such as the Arc Technology Group.

Re: Ghost / Blog

Up front disclosure: I'm the brother.

First of all congratulations on launching your blog.
