Of course, very few people are the Patriots and particularly when it comes to Social Media, I think many would be surprised to find out they are the Raiders.

To that end, the cool touchpoints about the Patriots are very real - plenty of diverse ways to access their vibe yet are real and human (think about the difference between Brady and Moss and that's just two.)

As always, good and provoking thoughts.

Re: Where’s Your Fortune Cookie Moment?

I have a similar story from the outdoor sports industry. I just picked up a new whitewater kayak from the Jackson Kayak factory in Sparta, TN. There's a little "assembled by" hang tag on the front wall in the cockpit that has the signature of "Steve Z." Having paddled the boat twice already, the thick paper card is wet and shredding but here's the cool part - the only thing you left on the card is Steve's signature that was apparently signed in a sparkley water-proof ink. Everything else dissolved but the Steve's signature. By the way, Steve did an awesome job with my boat - try to honor his work every time out :)

Re: Unexpectedly Green Cities: Eco-Travel in Chattanooga, Tennessee

Thank you for sharing a wonderful story about Chattanooga. It's the unexpected that are almost always the most fun. I live a little outside of town on the Ocoee River but spend a lot of time in Chattanooga immersed in our town's Green story - http://goldtogreentv.com/

Come back again :)

Re: Have Some Fun Gosh Darn It

Kayaking today? My road bike experiences in Chattanooga have largely been fantastic and when I am riding there, I'm still shocked that these horrific and tragic accidents are happening on the same roads. Last week, I started a ride at Greenlife, rode out through St. Elmo, up Nickajack and back to town - I can't tell you how many courteous and positive actions and gestures from drivers I observed that day but too many to count. Just want to point out some "good" when it happens too.

Re: Daniel Ryan Joins Chattarati as Technology Director

Congratulations on a great addition to your team!

Re: 9 Hidden Benefits of Blogging

Great list, John. I also find that the time I spend both reading and creating blog posts helps me be more efficient. I'm more aware of old time I've given up (largely watching local newscasts - which happened on someone else's schedule) in order to create new time (on my schedule) reading and creating information more relevant to the world I'm living in.

Along these lines, blogging makes you an active participant in telling your story, not a passive participant in the story of someone else.

Re: Sam Silvey: Where I Stand

Thanks for the post, Sam. I actually come from the Ocoee River area to Chattanooga to ride my bike so I'm in agreement with your ideas about cycling in Chattanooga. Even if a lot of people aren't ready to bike commute to and from work, I've always thought that the daily running around that downtown workers do (lunch, meetings, etc) would be great by bike. You'd get a nice, active break from your office environment, avoid re-parking hassles, and probably get most places as quickly if not quicker than by car.

On another note, WGOW must be so proud of the on-line presence created by their on-air personalities. I'm sure that's working out well for them.

Re: Daniel Ryan: Where I Stand

Nice write, Daniel. For me, what stands out a few days later is the size of the room filled with our local businesses, organizations, and individuals who want to be a part of this movement. I think that's a story worth telling and is a key part of the lifestyle we're enjoying in this community.

Re: Updated: “Late Night” Coming to UTC

If they're coming, I'm going with tourney bid meets "America's most unfit city." Anyone and everyone could learn something from watching it. My question from the audience would have been (or still would be) if you owned the Jets, what would you learn/do differently than Dan Snider? You're both passionate fans and that hasn't been a good mix for Snider. He's made money but won very little while destroying the culture of the team and fans in the process. How would you be different? Hope you get the Jets someday.

Re: Just Ask for It

Thanks for sharing this, Chris. Loved it. Alli is a great example of how local/hyper-local new and social media is working for our collective benefit - not just the benefit of being more aware what our friends are up to but I tuned into a show I rarely watch because they chose to feature a great subject with great guests. Well done, Alli!

Re: Sending the Wrong Message

Maybe I've become a worse coffee snob than I thought but coffee from a "farmhouse" doesn't exactly strike me as appealing. Obviously the examples that you use support your points very well but I come back to point #1 - be damned good at something. Along these lines, just be careful not to jump off from this endeavor too soon or too quickly. Being damned good at something takes time and focus on that one thing, not all the subsequent steps that will build your personal brand. Seems obvious yet it's one of the big differences between good and great.

Re: Is your marketing exposed?

If your target community is multi-generational, you need to have a multi-generational marketing platform. In this format here, most of us like social media and when using it wisely, it helps. Yet plenty of people - including executive and management types - have spent a long time in more traditional mediums and are not in this arena yet. It comes back to knowing as much as you can about your target community.

Re: CQ: What is Your Preferred Source for Chattanooga News?

Twitter has become a great way to check out what's going on in Chattanooga. Between following certain people and entities, like Chattarati, it's an easy, fluid and personal way to see what's happening and if you choose, to get involved in the conversation.

Btw, Chattarati's new cash map raises its own profile too as a source. (Because this is so critical right now to so many...) Anyway, I wrote yesterday that the Innauguration and the Super Bowl would be my 2 small nods to traditional broadcasts in these couple of weeks (although after watching CC Chapman yesterday, wished I watched FB) but not without the computer nearby to check out tweets and other commentary to fill the gaps that traditional media is missing. And if there are gaps in the broadcast, there are gaps in the advertising. Advertisers spending $3 mil/30 seconds would be smart to think about that.
