There may be some potential in Hank -- and that's a big maybe -- but The Middle was painful to watch.

Re: New 'SNL' cast member swears during live telecast

Isn't the 11:30 (10:30 Central) time period outside the "family" viewing time the FCC gets all worked up about? Sure, it was a stupid mistake but it's live television and that happens sometimes.

Re: Huckabee: Kennedy would have been urged to die under ObamaCare

As much as I am tireD of hearing this BS you have to give the wingers some credit. I think we all know it's more than $1,800 the company provides for a flex spending account. It's great that the company pays 100% of the employee cost but how much do they have to shell out to cover their families on this "great" high deductible plan? Deductibles for family plans can be as much as double that of a single person plan, which makes that $1,800 just about worthless. Where are the progressive business leaders to debunk this crap. Are there any out there?

Re: TV Academy shafts HBO by being more entertaining

Let be honest, networks are too cheap to make quality mini-series and most of their TV movies are crap, as well, so no one cares about those categories. What surprises me is the writing category. Why move drama writing and not comedy writing? Because Mad Men dominated the drama category last year? We sure wouldn't want to miss boring 30 Rock getting yet another award.

What the Academy doesn't get is that the categories matter little. People just aren't that into celebrity award shows anymore. When we only had three networks to choose from awards shows could dominate, but those days are over. They need to realize that.

Re: Few attend 'Mom-a-Con'; Heaton doesn't show

Why would they think the Comic-Con crowd would be interested in a family sitcom starring Patricia Heaton? This was a really great episode; an example of why this is one of best series on television -- anywhere. After a very mediocre start with the whole Miami police detective plot the series is back to what makes it so great.

Re: Last-minute Emmy predictions

You're probably correct about BSG, which is rather sad. The final season had some real weak points (that final episode being the weakest), but both Mary McDonnell and Edward James Olmos gave Emmy-worthy performances. It's a real shame these two can't get some recognition of their great work.

When I look at that list of actresses all I can think is "Boring!" especially the idea of Sally Field and Glenn Close. Field gave nothing new to her character this past season and Close is overrated in Damages. McDonnell is far and away a better choice.

Re: Texas restaurant doesn't allow "that faggot stuff"

Sad fact is, is these men were a protected minority they might have a caase, but something tells me Texas doesn't protect against discrimination based on sexual orientation. As such, the restaurant is within their right to refuse service to any person they want within the laws on the books. Does that make it right? No, but if there's any hope of making a change these guys will have a long fuight ahead of them.

Re: Video: 'Hell's' contestant tries to fight Gordon Ramsay

While I've only recently become a huge fan of this show I'm glad they bleep the profanity. I'm no prude and have been known to string together a wide array of swear words, but the people on this show go way over the top. I would not want to hear that for an hour every week. Besides, it just makes them all look like pathetic children.

Re: 'Warehouse 13' opens strong for Syfy

That's certainly not a bad number, but like most Syfy series if Warehouse 13 can maintain half that audience on a weekly basis the network should consider itself lucky.

Re: The Michael Jackson conundrum

Jackson was certainly strange -- no one can deny that -- but was he a pedophile? I don't know. He was never convicted. I questioned his actions when the trial was all over the airwaves, but what it sounded like to me was a grown man who was more child than man, who related better to children than adults. Was it creepy? Sure, but does that make him a pedophile? Again, I don't know. Considering the abuse he and the rest of his family suffered at the hands of their father I tend to think Jackson had some real psychological problems.

As for the non-stop retrospectives, well, he is one of the most well-known entertainers in the world with sales that have yet to be matched by any entrainer. It's not surprising.

Re: House Dems. step up to deliver on real health care reform -- and they're ready to rumble with the Senate

"ow, the best thing would be for the White House to join with the House Democrats and push the best possible plan -- even if it means no GOP support."

Yeah, I won't hold me breath. Don't get me wrong, Royal Pains is a good series, but it's not great television. It's certainly not the qualit of Burn Notice; although, that series is going through some creative problems lately.

Re: Katee Sackhoff joins '24'

Hopefully this will lead to some better offers. She's far too talented to be playing supporting roles in large casts. She would have been a far better choice for the character of Renee Walker than Annie Wersching. Let's hope she's not stuck behind a desk for the entire season, or that she doesn't end up being one of those characters that's there for a few episodes and then somehow forgotten like Rhys Coiro's character this past season.

Re: Feeling the hate in Jerusalem on the eve of Obama's address

Ah, yes, a bunch of drunk, overly privileged American kids. Wow, makes me so proud to be an American.

I doubt seriously these obviously uneducated fools should be held up as the standard-bearer for all American Jews.

The most disturbing part of this is hearing them utter such racist garbage. How sad for them.

Re: USA Network's summer off to strong start

I was actually a little disappointed in Burn Notice. I don't know if last season spoiled me, but I thought the premiere was boring in far too many spots. Royal Pains is certainly a work in progress but there seems to be enough there to keep my interest and a lot of potential for future development. I have found a nice 2-hour block of good television for Summer.

Re: Is there something glorious about a lingering, painful death?

I can't say I necessarily have a problem with this, but it should only be used in situations where there's no hope for survival and only when the patient is able to make that decision for his or her self.

Re: The CW's fall schedule: 'Vampire' on Thursdays; 'Privileged' cancelled

Wow, this seems like a total slap in the face to Smallville. The series has really started to grow on me and by the last episode I was hooked. Hopefully, with a second season, we'll get better quality writing and some character development.

With Amy Acker is the cast I'll definitely have to check out Happy Town. Cougar Town is probably worth a few episodes, as well.

Re: Mormon leader of NOM appears to advocate overthrow of US government "by whatever means necessary," and criminalization of homosexuality

As a huge science fiction fan I've, of course, read Card's great Ender series. Usually, a fiction author's politics don't matter to me, but a few years ago I discovered Card's website. After reading the crap he spewed forth it was impossible to do that. The last Card novel I read was Empire, a right-wing ode to overthrowing the government by any violent means necessary. I no longer own a Card novel and I will never read his books again. I can no longer separate his nutty politics from his work as a novelist. What he says here does not surprise me.
