Everything is given freely and without strings; no tax consequences. We like to know who is receiving the stuff, which is why it is kept very, very local.

Re: Get facts about solar on Bainbridge | Letters | Nov. 11 - Bainbridge Island Review

All other energy programs - oil, coal, nuclear - are highly subsidized by government through tax incentives and special treatment and arguably have a much higher environmental and economic "downside" from pollution (and reliance on foreign production in the case of oil.) This seems like a sensible way to level the playing field, economically, for solar, particularly when we also can encourage the use of components manufactured in Washington rather than China.

Big Oil and Big Coal have been in my pocket long enough - it is time to think of the future, not the past, and solar CAN make sense in the long run. I think Go Solar Bainbridge is just trying to get people to actually do the research.

Re: Walk-off home run ends Bainbridge's season - Bainbridge Island Review

Sounds like two heavy weight boxers that keep getting knocked down only to stagger up for more. What a heartbreaker for our local kids! We still are very proud of you - congratulations on a great run.

Re: Majors face Mercer Island in quarterfinals tonight - Bainbridge Island Review

Terrific photo! We are proud of our local kids doing so well in the state tournament. A bit tougher now, but we are thrilled to be this far along. Good luck, guys.

Re: Bainbridge 'gateway' could see major redesign - Bainbridge Island Review

Communities grow organically, and change over time. The Island is quite different from when I arrived in 1978, and will be different 30 years from now. Restrictions over design must be reasonable - Santa Fe requires adobe and it works fine, but should we require all our buildings to look the same or fit a theme, like Leavenworth, or even Poulsbo? What is "unique" to Bainbridge? What is the "heritage" that we all can agree on? We can respect the past without putting petty restrictions on every project that comes along. These developers have lived here, and they are part of our community - they want what's best for Bainbridge. I say give them a chance. Let the "Island Gateway" be that currently useless and fenced off slice of land across the street from this project that used to be a gas station - a welcoming park would do nicely there!

Re: Bainbridge Women in Black make their last stand - Bainbridge Island Review

Thank you for the silly, snarky, uninformed diatribe, looksea. The 60 to 90 minutes on a Friday evening is a mere "snapshot" of the overall efforts of many of the women (and men) that have stood for peace over the past seven years - they work at food banks and soup kitchens, senior centers and youth outreach programs, with churches and social organizations, as people commited to making the world a better place. They even give quite a bit of "earned proceeds" to worthy causes. Your ridicule of their mis-perceived complacency and "antics" suggests that you have forsworn the value of a vigil and that you are donating your own time and money actively assisting "those most in need" since, otherwise, you are a supreme hypocrite.

Re: Bainbridge Women in Black make their last stand - Bainbridge Island Review

Thank you, Women in Black. I will stand with you tonight to show my appreciation, and to support your call for Peace.
