I completely agree Ray,

I have about 35-40 ebooks on my desktop right now that I need to read. My plan is that every once in awhile instead of reading a physical book, I'll take a week or so and just read the ebooks everyday for 30-60 minutes.

I agree with what Brian said - "Digesting huge amounts of information and then taking the time to process it (also known as thinking) is a huge part of what drives my business. I used to feel guilty about it until I finally realized that this is my "work" even though it doesn't look like it to others (and doesn't feel like it to me)."

I feel the same way!

I love the fact that you don't even need to send the postcards out yourself - or really even design them if you don't want to (although I'd advise doing that).

They can also use click2mail.com to send out not only postcards but a wide variety of letters, cards, etc.

Wow, I've been reading about all this but I didn't realize it was THIS serious.

I have no problem having an affiliate site and telling my readers that I make money by reviewing products or whatever, but it seems like this is way too ridiculous.

All they need to do is hire a few people who's SOLE job is looking for obviously un-ethical companies. When they find them either have them clean up their act or get fined - and give them a certain amount of days to do so.

I'd be willing to pay a few extra cents in taxes to pay for those people. If they're doing it full-time, all you need is a few dozen employees anyway.

I mean seriously, isn't the government supposed to think these things through before making judgments like this? I just thought of that idea in about 3 seconds and I'm 1 person...

I will say this though - if it all ends up as bad as how you described it - our economy is going to TANK.

Just think about what would happen if all these major companies would depend so much on affiliate networks all of a sudden just disappear? The FTC would single-handedly bring down our already fragile economy.

Mmmm coffee, I can smell it brewing now (literally) :)

I'm also a big fan of Starbucks coffee. It might be like $4 in the store to buy but it's only like $8 for a 10oz. bag of it which'll last a few weeks!

Well worth it in my opinion.

I'm also a huge fan of tea - basically any kind. Green, oolong, black, during the day...then some kind of relaxing tea like chamomile, mint or something similar at night before bed while I read.

So my healthy routines?

Working out, coffee in the morning, walks with my wife (although not everyday), getting back into meditating today, and tea/reading before bed.

Believe it or not I've actually edited copy while I was on the treadmill (back when I was in college going to school full-time, copywriting part-time and another job part-time so I had like no time for anything and was forced to multi-task).

Staying fit isn't even about going on a treadmill either. Today I'm climbing a mountain by my house, which serves several purposes.

#1 - clears your head, which sparks ideas
#2 - gets blood pumping which sparks ideas
#3 - relaxes you, which helps spark ideas

Probably more, but you get my drift :)

P.S. I also might meditate in the woods for a few minutes while I'm up there. While it may sound strange...it's probably the best thing I've ever done for sparking creativity :)

For me it kind of comes down to whether or not I know for a fact that the person is lying.

One person I respect INCREDIBLY in this industry once said that "Your job is to write the best copy for the topic you're about to cover...even if there is plenty of evidence against it".

(Or something like that)

But I'm a little too moral and ethical of a person for that. I get guilty if I have to "lie" to my wife when I'm doing something special for her to keep it a secret!

Anyway...it basically comes down to 2 things for me.

1) Do I know for a FACT that I/the client would be lying?

2) Would the product or service I'm selling be helping out the prospect in such a tremendous way that they NEED The product, and just might need a little push?

And I take it from there :)

#2 is pretty important if you think about it. If you're selling some type of surgery procedure to a person about to die but they're too stubborn to take it...would you do anything in your power to make them get that surgery?

P.S. I don't worry much about the financials in a situation like this (granted, if you're just starting out and can't pay your bills - that's a different story).

I absolutely believe in Karma and think that if you are ethical enough to give up some money in order to stay honest and guilt-free...that money will come back to you ten-fold in the end.

Hmm...

Look up every possible way of treating it naturally? After all, all medications are taken from some type of natural ingredient (i.e. pain killers from the bark of a (I believe) white birch tree - something like that).

Beautifully said Ryan - advertising on TV is HUGE for some people but it always depends on your business.

To be fair I think #6 simply meant kind of knowing what's going on around the world and not watching TV all day - but even still...it's not true.

I haven't watched the news or read a newspaper in probably 2-3 years...and I'm just as productive if not more than the best of em.

When I try to be at least :)

Anyway, great post and awesome observation about picking the right list. That's one of the most important aspects of direct mail (if not THE most important)...yet people don't spend the time to get it right.

Yikes dude! Great job on picking an obviously piping-hot topic! You've been spot on the money lately :)

I think this whole situation kind of sucks. I have a trial offer, but I am so ethical about it - it's almost "too" much.

They are reminded that it's a FREE offer probably at least 3-4 times before they order...and on the upsells it VERY VERY clearly states that they'll be charged...PLUS once they click the add to cart button on the upsell, it reminds them AGAIN that they'll be charged...AND they have 6 seconds to be able to cancel.

(By the way I'm calling my merchant account today to have them look it over and see if it's "legal", but I have a feeling it won't be - even though it's so ridiculously transparent)

Sucks for all of us who are actually ethical that companies doing ACAI berry stuff are ruining it.

And Ryan I think it's more of a problem of products like that, not really Internet Marketers. Most Internet Marketers are little minnows compared to the sharks running FLOGS - which in my opinion are the REAL problems which caused all this.

Overall...I think it all comes down to this and this is what I'm personally pissed about.

There is NOTHING wrong with offering free trials, upsells, cross-sells, etc. My mindset is that I should do everything possible to give the customer as much as I can. Why? Because THEY WANT IT! I will only provide the absolute best information and my customers want that info.

However, the problem is when people like Filsaime make order pages with everything pre-checked and you have to manually UN-CHECK the box in order not to get it.

Hell...with Filsaime's previous launch, I spent a good 5 minutes making sure I didn't get the monthly magazine (I admit, I just wanted the online videos). But guess what? I STILL got signed up for them.

And Eric Graham...I actually had a problem with you as well. I signed up for a month of your membership program at like $50 or somewhere close...but after a single day got through all the material and "tried" to cancel, but couldn't. After something like 3 months and about 4-5 emails I had to do a chargeback unfortunately.

I'm not saying you wouldn't cancel me "purposely"...and still love your work...however...your customer service department REALLY needs to step it up - especially in these times.

Ok...my Magic Mouse just died, gotta change the batteries. I hope I can send this without using the mouse!

Great post Ryan...good job stirring the community up. All I can say is - YOU are one of the most honest and ethical people I've ever talked to since joining this community....so thumbs up to you brother :)

Yes I whole-heartedly agree that this is GOOD in the long run. It just sucks switching things around right now!

Just talked to our merchant account too - we have to come up with a completely new offer...although I figured out a way in which the conversions will be lower, but the people who DO stick will most likely stick much longer.

Yea, they might be fake - but who cares? The FTC is eventually going to take care of the guys who need to be taken care of.

Plus...in my opinion Deiss and Kern have put out some of THE best material I've ever seen - period. I've never seen even a smidgen of "badness" from either of them personally - and Kern's FTC stuff had nothing to do with him anyway (as far as I know the story at least).

Filsaime...eh...a bit shady...but I'm huge fans of Kern & Deiss and in my mind have no reason to doubt them. They both have awesome products, and awesome customer service. Prices are a bit high, but it's only because they can get that price - and because the materials are 100% worth the price (I'm a customer of both, in case anybody's wondering).

The point is...not ALL guru's are bad dude!

I absolutely HATE that website "The Salty Droid" - it's setup the exact same way as many political companies...digging up anything and everything possible and twisting it in unbelievable (and sometimes completely false) ways to make the person in question look bad.

^^Granted, just like politics, I'm sure it was setup that way.

Anyway, back to work!
