The more exposure she gets the better. I can't imagine Palin having a brilliant future in the party, unless she is taking them down and finishing them off--not a bad idea.

The hate monger far right is doomed--mostly because of America's younger, more diverse voter profile, their own medieval ideas about religion/science, their failed economic policies, their lack of leadership during the credit crisis, lack of vision on energy independence or global warming. It just goes on and on...

Re: Whoa, Pt. 2: Treasury Bails On Original Bailout Plan

It's kind of hard to believe that people aren't seeing the real impact of the credit bubble burst. If this government can't help put people back to work the game is up. No one can charge squat on their credit cards anymore. Middle-class America, which has kept everything propped up is--tapped out.

And the whole funky derivatives/credit default swaps thing is really ugly. There is massive failure there--and more yet to come (i.e., AIG asking for more money.)

We can pull ourselves up out of this mess, but not without another huge investment in jobs and education. Obama understands all this, I am sure of it.

It is sort of interesting to watch the Republican's flounder around in this
financial/credit crisis we're in. They have no answers.

Re: The Auto Industry Bailout

Charlie,

Green infrastructure, renewable energy, green manufacturing may be the only way to retool America, not just the car companies.

Re: The Strongest Democratic Performance In 44 Years

Now and forever more, when people say to me that I live in a fantasy world, that I am naive to think that people or government can grow or change--that good triumphs over evil, that God and the universe move in ways to help us, not hurt us--I can point to November 4, 2008 as irrefutable proof that I am right and they are very much mistaken, and would they like to take a moment to adjust their cynical attitude, please?

From here on out we work to help Obama walk the walk--to make the changes needed so this country becomes even greater.

God bless everyone that made this happen and for those who voted for McCain--let us hope they can be something more productive than a bunch of sore losers.

Re: Leave Her Alone

If Barack feels like he needs to comment on this--he will easily be able to expose this last gasping slur from the McCain camp for what it is.

And Genevieve, good point about this story backfiring on McCain re: the immigration issue. They have been arrogant, hateful and stupid.

They need to unload the religious wingnut base by funding a third party organization with Sarah Palin as its headliner politician. They have got to get rid of the neo-fascist base or they will never get the intellectual moderates back. They're finished until they find a way to pull it back to the middle. All she had to say was: "Yes, they are terrorists and criminals that should be tried and put away forever." How difficult is that really? But it seems to me, that you have already begun to develop (without probably thinking too much about it) a pretty unique "brand." At least that is my instinct and it seems to be born out in the feedback you are getting from many of the posts.

But I am not sure that the look is as important as the content and personality.

After you put a stake in the ground--what is great about TJR, what do I want TJR to be? Then you can design brand appropriate/unique graphics.

For instance, if you decided that you were going to be the "go-to satirical liberal political blog"--you would design a much different page than if you decided on more of a "greenish" environmentalist-leaning page.

I think the Jed brand, or Jed Report brand, or TJR brand, has to do with a sense of community and like-minded political opinion. It is accessible, not intimidating, with a very smart, well-informed group of contributors. People get a sense of knowing one another on this site.

Perhaps this new venture is more about how you intend to grow the site. Are you interested in attracting advertising revenue--or not? I suppose the fear is that the bigger the blog gets--the more impersonal it will become. And that is a very real dilemma, because then it won't be TJR anymore.

Whatever you design in the future, you must keep the sense of community and personality in mind. Is there a way to make the site kind of a you tube of bloggers linked together through TJR? A kind of you blog? Does Kos kind of do that?

Maybe there is way to combine Jed Report with blogger pages for linked (real people, not Huffington) individuals with interesting/humorous/political opinions? Lots of people like to share their thoughts without having to create their own site.

Those are just some thoughts.

Re: The $400 Haircut vs. The $150,000 Wardrobe

Can't you just imagine the scenario? Small town, rural state governor is swept into the presidential race with no more than a few wardrobe changes? Come to think of it, Sarah's sad dilemma could have been a special episode of Tim Gunn's new makeover show.

Sarah could have said "thanks, but no thanks" to Neiman Marcus and Saks. She used to be so fiscally responsible back in the beginning--at the convention. What happen to her judgment?

I guess the princess of the RNC got caught up in this crazy, whirlwind event: media, a convention speech, stumping for the ticket, crowds of people shouting her name, asking for her autograph, photo ops with heads of foreign states. Think about how difficult it might have been for her to stop at the doors of Saks and say:

"Wait a minute guys."

But did she do that? Did her McCain camp advisors do that? No. As usual, this whole wardrobe fiasco gets chalked up to another bad judgment call, in a very long line of them.

Re: http://www.jedreport.com/2008/10/this-just-about-says-it-all.html

After this is over, the Republicans are going to have to decide if they really want the religious right wing-nuts as the base of their party and what they are going to do about it. And there are so many of them--what do they do with them? The religious right can't be reasoned with.

We, on the other hand, have our work cut out for us. It is unlikely the democrats will get the sixty seats they need in the senate. And when the dust settles, it is hard to say how bitter the Republican's are going to be. If Obama wins by many points they might be cowed for awhile by such an impressive, public mandate.

Barack has an economic/tax plan, an energy plan, a healthcare plan, all of which will need a lot of public support--to push them along.

Re: The Hockey Mom With A $150K Wardrobe

I think you are all being more than a little snarky when it comes to Sarah's wardrobe choices. After all, she most likely is taking her wardrobe cues from Cindy McCain. Don't you all remember the fierce collared puce-yellow dress she wore for opening night at the RNC? Jewels, outfit and shoes totaled around $300,000.

Contrast the Republican girls with Michelle Obama, who wore a $148.00 dress from White and Black on The View.

Re: The Hockey Mom With A $150K Wardrobe

NCMike,

Technically, clowns get to deduct their costumes as a job related expense, but Sarah would have to pay taxes on any wardrobe she might keep. (Yea, just like she claimed her per diems last year as income.) It's kinda convenient to be Republican when it comes to income tax. They not only don't believe in it, but they label it as un-American.

Judy,

Hair extensions, make-up, wardrobe stylists--my goodness, it is just like putting a lipstick liner tattoo on a...Republican?

Re: What Is John McCain's Problem With Women?

Genevieve,

I read that NY Times piece on Cindy. And yet the entire campaign has been running like they need to--"quick, shore up the base."

I think they keep hoping that they can scare the Obama leaners and undecideds like they did before the DNC, but it won't work the way it did then--people are more familiar with Obama now, plus Biden, debates, endorsements, etc.

If it wasn't for the fact their attacks have gotten so despicable, the McCain camp's crazy, desperate antics would be unbelievably entertaining--the kind of thing that you pop some popcorn, pull up a chair and laugh.

Re: Houston Chronicle for Barack Obama

Yes!
