Interesting isn't it that you agreed to this contract on the week of the one year anniversary of the young girl drowning on Plum Island. Did you somehow forget the conversation we had about my being on the beach that day and witnessing numerous fire fighters literally "walking" down the beach to the rescue site because they were so fat and overweight that running was impossible!!??? I can't imagine that you would because we talked about it last year and again just two weeks ago when I called to ask what actions you had taken. Of course, your answer was that you hadn't done anything. And now this!?

They're fat union hacks so I know they could care less. But for you mayor, you really need to find some other line of work. Knowing what you knew and doing nothing about it is continuing to jeapodize public safety. You're a disgrace!!!

Medic/Sybil: I'd have better luck doing my own fire fighting than to rely on the FAT HACKS I saw walking down the beach while a young girl was drowning!!!!

The sad thing is, now, thanks to this yet another weak mayor, everyone in the city of newburyport is continually subject to them performing at the same level as when I saw with my own eyes paid rescue personnel so fat they couldn't run 25 yards down the beach.

I hope anyone reading this remembers my post and holds this mayor civilly libel the next time someone dies given she signed this contract knowing there are employees in that department performing in that fashion during a rescue emergency.

I wonder if Mayor Holaday talked with Tierney about how "many" of the Newburyport fire fighters who showed up at a rescue scene on Plum Island a couple of years of a young girl were literally walking down the beach because they were so fat and out of shape it was impossible for them to run to the rescue site?

What did he do last night after leaving court for KILLING someone? He went to the gym next to the courthouse to have fun with his friends. I have to hand it to him though…he’s consistent, because he was at the gym just days after the accident flirting with girls and laughing it up with his buddies.

Even if it wasn’t texting that caused him to go into the other lane the fact is this punk killed Mr. Bowley. Wouldn’t a normal person be remorseful? Embarrassed? Shameful? Maybe lay low for a while? Not this punk!

The biggest joke is the tattoo he has on one arm (he has many) of two hands praying with rosary beads weaved between the fingers of the hands. He better pray because he’s going to need it.

This comment may sound a bit controversial, but can someone please explain why law enforcement is being hailed as having done such a tremendous job? Besides the cops
at the bombing site, those involved in the shoot out, and the couple involved during capture at the boat, I’d argue they all failed miserably!

There were 4,000+ cops involved in the manhunt and not one of them found the guy. The cops spent all day Friday going house to house manhandling homeowners and turned up
nothing. Of course, most of the 4,000
cops literally did nothing all day but stand around on a street corner. Some street corners literally had 40~50 cops
just standing there….what was the purpose of that? Was that a good use of resources? They were chasing ‘one’ person! Remember, it wasn’t a cop that found the guy in the boat, it was a homeowner.

You can throw in the Watertown Police Chief who only put four officers on duty Thursday night knowing there were two terrorists on the loose in his backyard. That is why they had to wait for backup when the MIT shootout started. Yet, the media is glorifying this guy as some
kind of hero. And the press was wondering why FBI Special Agent Rick DesLauriers disappeared from making public comments on Thursday and Friday. I say it was because the FBI learned that they knew of these two brothers over the past couple of years and failed to watch them properly and wanted to take a less visible role in the investigation.

I have a state cop friend who bragged to me he made over $10,000.00 the week following the bombing. He put for and got paid for time that he didn’t even work. Times this by thousands of other cops and is it any wonder it was the most expensive manhunt in history? Yet, it failed.

Advocate: The answers are not necessarily difficult for someone with common sense. Of course, we're in Massachusetts and now Obama's America so not much will change.

1.) You can start by "locking down" our borders to anyone and everyone that wants to come here. Do you think Israel let's anyone into their country that hasn't been vetted thoroughly?

2.) Stop immediately the social welfare handouts that fund and facilitate these people's existence in this country. Make all those receiving 'any' financial benefits prove they are in need of them.

3.) Hold public officials at every level accountable for not doing their jobs properly and treating these terrorists as one of us.

4.) Hold College's and Universities accountable for not tracking foreign students that come to this country under the guise of a student visa and then disappear never to be seen again. This currently amounts to tens of thousands of people.

5.) Profile...profile...profile!!! It is no secret who is at war with the USA.

As long as Liberals continue to be in denial that we're at war and do nothing these attacks will continue.

The CDC reports that smoking kills 443,000 people per year. Of that, 49,000 people die from second hand smoke. And guns? In 2011 32,000 people died in the USA from guns. More people die in this country in 3 weeks from smoking than they do from guns all year.

Can any liberals out there explain this logic by Tierney, Obama and the rest of the clueless?

It's not just a matter of 'knowing' what Flaherty was doing, many working in the DPW willing participated, including high ranking supervisors. When this broke that lead to several running down and retiring as fast as they could. And everyone knows who they are, including the Mayor. Many who participated in the scam are still currently work in the DPW and wake up every day literally counting the days until they too can retire.

As you say, pensions should be revoked. But once someone has been approved to receive one it's really hard to reverse the process. And extremely costly.

That is why there should be an automatic 90 day waiting period from the time someone applies for a pension and it is approved. That way if there is something potentially damaging to awarding a pension the application can be put on hold pending an investigation.

John Rogers, Kevin Thompson, Flaherty, et. al....look at all the pensions awarded to criminals and under performing employees and the cost to the city to pursue reversing them. If there was a 90 waiting period it would have saved the City a ton of time and money.

Hank, all we can do is hope is Cox, at the direction of the Mayor, is competent and motivated to do what is best for the taxpayers.

History shows that probably won't be the case. The Mayor just hired back a criminal fire fighter under the guise it will save the city money. Never mind the guy deserved to be fired.

And let's not forget Spiro for all of his buddy overtime payments/shifts. Has the city been completed paid back for that? If not, does the city have a lean against his estate in the event he dies before it's paid back, or are taxpayers going to eat that one too?

Hey Everett...you make it sound like an increased tax base leads to an increased quality of life for the citizens of Salem.

Everett, more is not necessarliy better. More homes, more businesses, more people, more traffic, more need for public resources, etc, etc.

Sure, that leads to more revenue but also more costs. But I know what you're thinking. You're thinking the same thing that Chuckie Morse and all the other hacks are thinking. That you need more revenues to cover all the mindless spending commitments that have been made in town. All those pensions are terribly expensive, aren't they?

Why don't you try managing those spending commitments without the increased tax base and see if they end up being a good decision in the long run?
