I checked the special report page, but it didn't list any of this, so I'm not sure how to tell if the research is actually representative or just anecdotal.

Re: Publishers Say Email is #1 Revenue-Driving Technology

Digital editions are a horrible attempt at shoehorning a print experience into a digital format. No one actually wants to read smaller text across columns, or "flip" pages. Publishers should stop clinging to the trappings of print and focus on improving the experience / taking advantage of the possibilities of the medium web readers are actually using: their website.

Re: Whether Print Magazines Are Dead Or Alive Depends on Your Business Model

Bob all due respect to you, but c'mon now, "no two business plans alike" is pure sophistry. It wouldn't be an industry to begin with if these businesses were more dissimilar from each other than they are similar.

There are obviously trends in what's working for many publishers: events, sponsored content, better membership programs, monetizing newsletters, etc.

And yes, there are a huge number of unique revenue streams many publishers are developing -- what I was saying was in an article titled "depends on the business model" it would have been nice to see a few specific examples of novel business models that are (and aren't) working. Without it, what are you telling PubExec readers that they don't already know?

All the best.

Re: Whether Print Magazines Are Dead Or Alive Depends on Your Business Model

Wish the article delivered on the headline's promise! =/ No discussion of actual business models of different mags.

Re: <this is the hackathon article>

Heads up team, there seems to be an error in your formatting on this article. Radio buttons instead of checkboxes, if you've taken these kinds of surveys before. That's a poor choice for a question like this; it assumes both that there's only one factor in your reason for rejecting a candidate, and that the reason is the same every time.

Please stop spreading crap data just because it's wrapped up in a pretty chart.

Re: How to Hire a Good Marketer (for Startups)

Glad to hear it; thanks for reading!

Re: How to Hire a Good Marketer (for Startups)

Couldn't agree more that product management skills are key, Derek. I'm not sure why "positioning and targeting" would be separate from marketing, though -- I think of these as some of the key things a marketing director helps with.
