That's one of the dumbest things I've ever read in print. You do realize, of course, that the money being handed to people for not working is being taken from people who are working? It's a zero sum game, idiot. If your "logic" (and I use the term very loosely) was correct, why don't we just create an entire economy out of unemployed individuals and those who handle their claims? We could take turns being unemployed and sending them checks! Frickin' moron.

It's more than a little disturbing that an educated, intelligent woman who writes about economics for a living considers this a "heretical idea." It would seem to be a pretty blatently obvious idea. It does not bode well for our country that the supposed experts lack a basic understanding of human nature and the basics of economics.

What a disgusting, ignorant statement. I guess Mr. McElvaine thinks throwing free cash at black people and holding them to lower standards than white people is "supportive." Republicans are still supporting blacks - by treating them as equal to whites, not in need of extra help just because of their skin color.

He was walking down the street with his pants unzipped. None of the stories mention him masturbating or that his pants were "down," or that it was necessarily anything more than he forgot to zip up. Granted, while watching porn on his cell phone...I'm not saying the guy's some model citizen or anything, but he also doesn't seem to be any kind of serial molester. But anyone who searches him is gonna see a half dozen stories pop up labeling him a sexual predator. Just saying, it kinda sucks for him. And that his name isn't Joshua Smith or something.

One doesn't have to be passionate about "packing and shipping," per se, to be passionate about working in packing and shipping. Sure, I'm not literally passionate about doing menial labor or typing emails for someone else or booking someone else's travel arrangements, but I am passionate about earning a living and doing a good job and working hard.

But yeah, I do get your point about stupid interviewers for crappy positions. They're basically sitting there asking you to lie to their face, knowing you're doing it.

This, so much - yes, maybe I'm overqualified, and yes, I understand that they're scared of hiring someone and training them and seeing them leave after six months; and that that process costs them money.

But particularly in this economy, do they not think that someone who's overqualified is applying for job because they NEED and WANT it? That they'll work that much harder because they're grateful for the job and the income, and that if they're overqualified, odds are they're smarter and harder working and more professional than the slackers you usually get applying to crappy jobs? Yes, I've got a Masters, but I'll be a kick-ass assistant. Because to get that Masters, I had to work my butt off and be organized and know how to manage time effectively.

Argh. Frustration.
