Comprehension a problem for you? Gate agents are NOT THE LAW. Again, the federal law pertains to crewmembers in the performance of their duties. They CANNOT do anything they want. I have worked for airlines, in several fields. You prevent the problem by NOT letting it get to the aircraft. United is wrong. Stick to graphic arts.

Stick to graphic arts. They ARE NOT the law on an airliners. The law states your cannot interfere with a crewmember in the performance of his/her duties. Gate agents are not crewmembers. Let's take your stance to the extreme. If a flight attendant told you to assault another passenger, would you do it? In your opinion, they are THE LAW. Having experience both sides of this situation, I can tell you United is completely in the wrong. You try to prevent ANY possible altercations on the aircraft and handle situations PRIOR to boarding.

I would suggest that the lesson to be learned, is that you DO NOT bust down the door of a citizen, in the middle of the night, because you THINK you smell chemicals. It's well past time to legally re-evaluate what officers consider "probable cause".
